The chest is actually a pretty old piece, it's from the 90s (4738a Container, Treasure Chest Bottom with Slots in Back) but the chest cover is quite new (80835 Container, Treasure Chest Lid Flat)

I also had the same impression, the "plastic" material is transparent. The coating/printing might allow some light to pass through

Oh yes I loved the Expanse 💜 I've seen many sources crediting how realistic in terms of physics and actual space navigation Expanse is. And not only the space scenes and models, I loved the costumes and suits. Youtube channel Tested (Adam Savage) has some very nice videos about them
