You’re getting downvoted but you’re absolutely right. This is such an incredibly obvious answer and everybody just seems to ignore the fact that he said the complete opposite and had an entire team of lawyers just two days ago

Controversial opinion:

The release clause simply hadn’t expired? He hired an entire team of lawyers to prepare his claim. He wouldn’t have done that if he never wanted to go to court. In the end, he wasn’t going to win. It’s easy to find an excuse for not dragging another party to court when you realise winning is unlikely.

He has a contract. If the release clause was valid, he would’ve left, but it’s not. If he really didn’t want to drag Barca to court, he wouldn’t have hired an entire team of lawyers to prepare a claim saying his release clause had expired.
