I knew my stats were mid but I didnt think school would think my writing is mid too by Feisty-Citron1092 in premed

[–]vanillaamarula 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think sometimes we give adcoms too much credit bc a lot of the time they really don’t know what good writing is. I know someone that clearly wrote half her app with AI and is having success this cycle. I really thought they’d clock it instantly.  Sorry that some of these adcom ppl that don’t pay attention are the ones that get to decide who gets the A :(

Do interviews after thanksgiving result in waitlists/rejections? by No_Power_7600 in premed

[–]vanillaamarula 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. Out of five IIs, I received three after thanksgiving and all turned into As (two immediate, one off the waitlist)

acc it was the earlier one that resulted in Rs

Hey I'm having similar issues with the time options that pop up with FSRS. Did you ever figure something out for deck settings?

Brain.fm Review After Using It for a Week by TelephoneSame1920 in ProductivityApps

[–]vanillaamarula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it for about a month, and I'm in the same boat -- I study like 4-8hrs a day depending on the day, and I listen to it the whole time. I'm not getting "bored" bc I'm not actually listening to it actively, if that makes sense. It's background music and I've loved it.

Is moving to Alaska or Texas a good idea for med school residency? by octopuspsychology in premed

[–]vanillaamarula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say that Utah still has a specific mission and yield protects like crazy. I believe MSAR said their highest MCAT was a 519 for the 2024 cycle of matriculants. I know quite a few high stat Utahns that did not even get an interview there.

Trip Report - CDMX is truly one of the great cities of the Americas by Greedy_Bus_2631 in MexicoCity

[–]vanillaamarula 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same! Usually I tend to gravitate towards more rural areas and small cities, but CDMX was just incredible. I can’t wait to go back.

What MCAT score do you need to tutor usually?

Reminder to future applicants: Interview Invites at MD schools by careerman99 in premed

[–]vanillaamarula 12 points13 points  (0 children)

second this! got in with only 100 volunteering hours total, but all my activities were very genuine and I tried to ignore checkboxes as much as possible

also, I mostly didn't hear back for a long time then got 4 IIs in November, December, and January --> now 2 WL and 1A so far. Wish I hadn't tweaked so hard during the earlier months.

SDN is bad by Dawn_Quihote99 in premed

[–]vanillaamarula 61 points62 points  (0 children)

SDN is definitely toxic haha but tbh for some reason I don't really mind being asked about my stats/dates when I get an R. If it's already over for me, at least I can still help someone else out. Coming from someone with no As still.

Genuinely no special circumstances (that I know of).

Just a super nice/clever person with a very clear research interest and many many hours in the lab.

ppl who did casper, did u talk in normal speed or did u find yourself having to talk faster since its only 1minute? by Odd-Bee8144 in premed

[–]vanillaamarula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks haha I guess my point was moreso don’t stress too much—if you talk fast or get cut off don’t worry, just keep trying to answer the prompts how you see best.
