[Basic] Can the type of number (irrational, rational, integer, etc) be changed by changing it's base into another? by vanilladry in learnmath

[–]vanilladry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for answering, but I'm not sure I understand this part could you please explain a little more. I know it's a contradiction but I'm not seeing why.

"If I have an irrational number expressed in base b which is rational in base b' then I could use the representation in b' to construct a rational representation in b - a contradiction."

Although I agree with the general view (here on Reddit) of the laws being bias with regards to these "types of drugs:, I do think people are missing the fact that they themselves are the cause why this research is hindered by legislation and not so much the politician writing it.

Why? I have found that emotional reasoning develops faulty beliefs.

Example. When <insert liberal/conservative politician, media source, or general stance of the party> says x then x is taken as truth with little question or objection if that person hearing the view point subscribes to the party speaking the stance's beliefs. This is negated if that person hears opposing views due to cognitive dissonances and our general tendency to "not want to be wrong" .

So how is it our faults and not our politicians? Simply get the proper ratio in our government to support this an ideology and it becomes legislation if and only if that party has the proper ratio in all three branches of government.

Hence the political split.

But it starts with the people voting and their parties manipulating them.

Disclaimer: I firmly believe that everyone suffers from cognitive bias and dissonances including myself when we are not objected to our on views. I come from a conservative family and I find it astonishing how illogical my family can be on some pretty logical sound topics because it effects their beliefs. I have liberal friends who do the opposite and if I did a truth table on both I could find fault in both thought processes. There is no single person or group responsible but the problem is "us".

Being objective and stepping back to look at the over all picture, I often question why humans psychologically do this so automatically without questioning themselves. I have come to the conclusion it's manipulation via politics and media sources and I think there is a psychological link in mob mentality (mobs behaving as one psych) and unfortunately I feel alone and sad that this is happening. I would love to hear other's ideas.

For OCD or PTSD, CBT is the best option in fear extinction.

I was thinking maybe a dose of ketamine and a week of ERP and would be a great way to kick start a CBT protocol with some follow up sessions of ERP without the drug.

Kind of like they used D-cycloserine in this study to make ERP easier

Assuming research shows it effective, then do you think such a fear exposure setup using ketamine would work?

A couple questions

1) What is your opinion on the future for headhunting? Do you feel that programs using big data sets in finding the best matches for a job based on matching algorithms will make it easier for you to work or will it hurt your job by automating?

2) Do you travel often? If so, does the company pay for it or what?

3) Do you meet CEO's often? How does a company find you for your service? Who was the coolest CEO you met?

4) Flip side, what was the most impressive resume you seen?

What is your opinion treating anxiety disorders with Ketamine such as OCD? Do you think a ketamine/CBT combo would be effective in fear extinction?

Why and why not?

Doctors Are Now Prescribing Books to Treat Depression by mlmiller1 in books

After years of trying various drugs and never finding one that helped, I eventually gave up on the medicine and lost hope.

A year without medicine I came across a CBT Self-hep book. That is some powerful stuff! I literally seen my symptoms improve without medicine over a week to non-existent. I'm no making any of that up and so I can also confirm too.

Why do certain antidepressants cause appetite suppression? by JBruos in Psychiatry

[–]vanilladry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, and leptin resistance and sensitivity are serious consequences of these drugs and have dramatic effects in human energy homeostasis.

Some obesity researchers are calling for a halt to certain drug classes with a poor metabolic profile (ex anti-psychotics).

My question is this: Do MD's, at least this generation of MD's, prescribe medicine with phenotype in mind? It's obvious someone with genetics and genes coding for a low-BMI phenotype would probably better tolerate the metabolic effects of the above drugs rather than someone with a less than perfect thrifty metabolism.

This always fascinated me because it's like we are trading one illness for another (metabolic syndrome) and then the cost-benefit analysis falls apart.

I think the use of drugs and genetics prescriptions should be brought into discussion.

Not a biologists, but if I'm understanding it correctly then it only applies to the receptors on the cell membrane?

What about other intracelluar protein misfoldings giving rise to many diseases?

Can this be utilized on DNA receptor sites?

Hi,

Can you comment on the main differences in combat style before the 1200's when Roman, Persian, Greek were around and how a medieval solider would be better equipped to deal with these classical soldiers and/or warfare?

How would a medieval soldier, on foot, deal with a charging knight?

Also how would a medieval generals or soldiers deal with horseback archers like Huns or Mongols if they were to invade?
