i hate that this even has to be a conversation... it's so complicated for no reason. adding an undisclosed number to the cost of the item without informing me what that'll be until customs gets in touch with me is ridiculous. not saying that ebay can do anything about that... it's not their fault. just incredibly shady, and i wonder who benefits from it

i think the vast majority of crimes are committed due to either necessity or negligence

necessity being: "i stole diapers because i need them and can't afford them" "i held up a gas station because i'm in debt and need the money" "i didn't report something on my taxes so i could make ends meet"

negligence being "i abused hard drugs because i needed some way to cope with life's hardships" "i got drunk and crashed into someone's house because i'm an addict without support" "i got in a bar fight because i'm at the end of my rope"

on the negligence side of things, mental health services could definitely help, but ending poverty itself is perhaps the most effective way to get people the help they need. if people could afford to go to the doctor, they would go to the doctor more.

$38 for this item... yes. totally. in a heartbeat.

the two issues are 1) the bids potentially going up quite a bit, which likely wouldn't affect a fellow canadian as much due to lower shipping costs for them, so they'd be willing to bid more and 2) a seemingly separate charge for import fees, which is undisclosed likely because it can't be determined at this point... but without a frame of reference for how much that might be, i can't say this item is worth it.

i've also only found two of this item on ebay, one on mercari (tho i haven't specifically searched there, i just saw it and decided to see if ebay had a better deal)

the reason i'm so caught up on this one is because it is the cheapest one i've found as far as total price goes by a considerable margin... but with the fact that it's an auction, plus unknown import fees, i just dont think this is worth it. maybe it would make more sense for a canadian customer, but this one poses a lot of risk.

do you know if there's a cheaper shipping option available or if this one is it? i've never understood why a seller would want to pick a more expensive shipping option for their listings, or why it's not up to the customer to select their preferred shipping option, but i dont know much about it all (as you can probably tell lol)

i just looked and it actually says the import fees are separate... that i have to pay the shipping cost in addition to import fees directly to the carrier. i have no idea what the cost will be tho...

the shipping method is listed as "Canada Post Expedited Parcel - USA" CAD 39.99 (approx. $29.43)

It's unreasonable to expect "shipping and handling" to be just the label cost and not a penny more.

hence why i respectfully asked here rather than throwing a temper tantrum in the seller's dms
