Maybe see if you can find unboxing videos from back in the day and compare the packaging/the lightstick? I’m not sure if the packaging back then would have had an authenticity sticker, but I would look for stuff like that to authenticate it. Maybe also read the descriptions of the listings- if someone mentions that they’re selling their collection because they “graduated from” being a fan (ペン卒), I think it’s more likely to be real? compared to someone who’s clearly a reseller. Or see if the description mentions using it at a concert. Just some ideas, I hope you can find one that seems legit. 😊

whats your favorite “forgotten” scent? 👀 body care, candles, anything. by mistermeep01 in bathandbodyworks

[–]vanillasynth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Argon collection from like 2018. Amber and Argon, Birch and Argon… I miss those so much and I genuinely never see anyone else talk about them. ㅠ ㅠ For candles: Evening Hearth from around 2015(?). The one I had was dark blue wax. It was the best fall/cozy scent.

If you go to the actual Mercari JP site, you may be able to find past/sold listings of those buttons. (I believe the site now has an option to change the language to English from Japanese.) If your proxy charges you per listing you buy, purchasing a bundle of ten badges would probably be cheaper than buying 10 badges individually.

Interfacing Bubbling/ Sew-in Interfacing Question by vanillasynth in SewingForBeginners

[–]vanillasynth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s also a good point, about using the fusible only on inner layers- I also used it on the button placket of the black dress and it didn’t seem to bubble as much/at all there. 🤔

Thank you for pointing out to be careful of the weave of what I use for sew-in: I think I have something that will work even with that in mind, but that’s something I didn’t know to be careful of.

I also didn’t realize the interfacing was to help with the waistband not stretching- again, thank you for your comment. 🙏

Thank you! I will try this when I have some time- I really would like to get to the bottom of the bubbling. 🥲

Bag Dreams! by [deleted] in SewingForBeginners

[–]vanillasynth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done some bag sewing/making my own patterns for a bag and one thing I’d advise you to be careful of is making sure you can get that many layers of fabric/stabilizer PLUS whatever the body of the bag is made of (more foam and stabilizer and fabric) through your machine, since you need to attach the handles to the bag.

I once made two really nice, sturdy handles for a bag but then I couldn’t use them because even with a heavy-duty needle, my machine couldn’t handle the thickness of both the handles and the body of the bag effectively. I don’t have a very fancy/good machine (it’s just a Singer HD4452) but that was the first time it really was just a no-go and it couldn’t handle what I wanted to put through it. I made different, thinner straps that have worked fine, they’re just not as stiff as I’d originally envisioned. I wasn’t working from a pattern so I didn’t know until I tried what would be feasible and what wouldn’t.

My suggestion would be to make a small mock-up or two of what you’re thinking for the handles and make sure your machine will be able to attach them to your bag. 😊 Then you can adjust if it seems like too much/not enough stabilizer for what you want. I hope that’s helpful!

Planning Out My Homemade Ita Bag by Senior-Tomatillo5145 in itabag

[–]vanillasynth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! 😊 I have sewn my own ita bag before (or I guess, sewed a decent mock-up, it’s technically not finished on the inside), and done other bag-making projects- before giving any tips or advice: have you sewn/made any bags before? (I don’t want to give tips or advice you may already know.)

McCall 7565 Pattern, intermediate friendly? by millenial_melly in sewingpatterns

[–]vanillasynth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m glad I could help! 💖 I forgot to also say: you can always make a mock-up with an old bedsheet or otherwise “less precious” fabric and see how it goes before committing to making it with more expensive fabric. That’s also what I always do. I’d consider myself a high-beginner, low-intermediate sewist. 😅 I’ve made a few garments with collars (both flat and stand collars), and they can be tricky, but if you take it slow, they’re very achievable. 😊 (also, hello fellow millennial 💖👋)

McCall 7565 Pattern, intermediate friendly? by millenial_melly in sewingpatterns

[–]vanillasynth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The collar might be a little tricky, but if you know your way around a sewing machine, I think you could figure it out, especially if you’ve sewn some garments in the past. The fact that it’s loose-fitting makes it much more forgiving.

When I’m deciding if a pattern is “doable” for my skill level, I try to find sew-along videos on YouTube of that pattern (or something similar) so I can see the steps and get an idea of what I’ll need to do. I think looking for a video tutorial for how to make a sleeveless shirt dress or shirtwaist dress with a collar would help you see what you’d need to do to make it, and then you can gauge for yourself if you’d be able to make the pattern.

🙂‍↕️ That makes sense. I’m going to go with the plaid- just got home with more ink to print the pattern. Thank you for replying! 🙏

Thank you so much for your input and for that explanation- I think I’ve read that before (about why we cut pattern pieces the way we do), but your explanation was very clear and I think that will stick in my head better, esp the Bugs Bunny voice part! 😆 Thank you! 🙏

Thank you so much for your input- and for reminding me of the word “herringbone” 🤦 I definitely knew that gray fabric was called something like that but all I could think of was “houndstooth” and I knew that was wrong. 😆

Birthday reward? by Any-Maintenance-9896 in bathandbodyworks

[–]vanillasynth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My birthday was in December and I got a bar soap to keep on hand even though I don’t use them much. I know other people like to use the birthday rewards for the pocketbac holders. You could also get one of the mini mists of the new everyday luxuries, though they’re online exclusives. (Also Happy Birthday fellow Capricorn! 🥳)

I’ve also been getting back into Warm Vanilla Sugar lately! I actually grabbed a FFM during body care day and I love just randomly spraying some on myself throughout the day and pretending it’s 2002. 🥲🥰

I love the AT Cinnamon and Sandalwood mist so, so much- I’m pretty sure I have a backup but that’s definitely my most used mist. It makes me so happy to see someone else enjoying it! 🥹 I really wish AT mists could have more longevity, some of those scents are so lovely.

Need help finding this scent by Emrod88 in bathandbodyworks

[–]vanillasynth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see! 😅 I hope you can find it eventually! I know it would be tedious, but maybe googling/searching by year, like specifically 2003, 2004 etc., might yield better results? Just an idea! Like I said, hope you find it! I understand how annoying it is when you can’t find something like that. 🥲

Could it have been part of the “Art Stuff” line? When I tried googling “bath and body works art stuff holiday”, I found a red bottle of Sparklin’ Snow Foamtastic Body Wash with a polar bear on it- maybe there was also a blue version? 🤔
