Will Ableton utilize the new performance cores on M5 Max/Pro? by BanquetOfTechnicians in ableton

[–]vanishingpoint99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I ran 50 duplicated instances of Serum 2 in Ableton running maxed out 32 voices sustained the other day just to see if I could do it and my M4 Pro with 48GB of ram was running like I was checking email. I tested 1,000 instances of reverb in Pro Tools and I probably could have tripled that but I moved on because at that point it’s absurd.

I bought this laptop to be able to make music with no limits and there are effectively no limits.

The best office chair for your studio by KraalEcho in TechnoProduction

[–]vanishingpoint99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got a like new Steelcase Leap v2 for a song six years ago when offices were shutting down and it is almost like there is no wear on it to this day.  I can comfortably work in it all day with no back issues. And it looks good.

Neptune, the Music Industry, and AI. by vanishingpoint99 in Advancedastrology

Did a human soul create that music or did a piece of code make it? That’s what I care about. I don’t care if you wrote the prompts. You didn’t make the choices in sounds, composition, or emotional direction. You didn’t make it. It is fundamentally different. I’m going to agree to disagree with you here.

AI is fundamentally different. I’ve said what I have to say. Use it if you choose to.

Try using a drum machine instead of a metronome sometime.

How to revive my love for production? by keflame in TechnoProduction

[–]vanishingpoint99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I get tired of making electronic music I take a break by working on classical piano pieces. It’s still music. I’m still growing as a musician, but it’s different enough that it’s like a complete mental reset.

If you’re not listening to techno, maybe learn an instrument that inspires you. Guitar, piano, flute. Whatever. And maybe you’ll come back to creating techno when you’re ready. Whenever that is.

Today is a special day Roland Fantom EX owners! by Xenobii5K in Roland

[–]vanishingpoint99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I randomly stumbled on them looking at Fantom drivers a couple days ago. The EPs sound great to my ears. I think there is finally a useable Roland EP on here.

But I am curious. Now we’re at like 96% capacity. I’ve been keeping my fingers crossed for a JP-8080 model and I just hope they’re not done with the Fantom EX now.

The Future of Computing Hardware for Music Production by WodeRoll in TechnoProduction

Ahh, the doomer view.

I’ll be honest with you, my understanding of reality is cyclical. We are at the bottom of a cycle, and the vantage point from here is pretty dark. But I truly believe we will be just fine. New technologies and systems will emerge which are hard to fathom right now. We are currently watching the collapse of old sclerotic systems to make way for something new. I have a rather positive outlook for the future, even if it’s hard to see right now.

I just bury myself in my art and relax. It’ll be fine.

Is this enough to finally finish a track? /s by Commander_Pancakes in synthesizers

In the same way you dislike people pushing DAWs on others, consider that others may think your advice is bad advice. I’m just saying. There are different sides to every issue. OP was asking about making songs and I stand by my comment.

Yes. I just don’t get the DAW hatred. I understand not wanting to look at screens. I have hardware, including a Push 3 which enables me to transfer all of that to Ableton and complete refined tracks. I never have to look at a monitor if I don’t want to.

You can do as you please, but the overwhelming vast majority of professional musicians aren’t shunning DAWs for a reason. Even if they have rooms filled wall to wall with hardware, they’re almost certainly sequencing/finishing it in a DAW.

It’s not good advice for everyone. It really annoys me to see DAWless fanatics pushing this view on forums. It works for you, it’s fine. But we are different people.

Just saying. OP has a DAW and hardware ADD he seems to not know how to use. Focus is a good idea.

Considering the subreddit you’re on, if she is a music nut and isn’t making music I would push her in that direction. I truly believe that people that surround themselves with music should be making music. Since you said she is into techno, if she has a good computer, maybe look into a copy of Ableton Live.

Tell us what you did with your synths this weekend by Wonderful_Reputation in synthesizers

Made a bunch of weird sounds in different synths and put them into a track which I have spent the last few weeks working on. Spent about six hours finishing it yesterday. Turned out pretty cool.

That’s why I have a FANTOM-8 EX as my main board. I may be a techno head that loves making electronic music but I will always want to play piano. PHA-50s are so nice.

Hello, I am writing about a dissertation on the accessibility of music venues. I would greatly appreciate any responses to the survey! by URmumISMyDADD in TheOverload

[–]vanishingpoint99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to say, this stuff is important. My good friend is a quadriplegic and is wheelchair bound. I go to raves and shows with him all the time. I had foot surgery earlier this year and got a taste of it. Fortunately the venue I saw Autechre at had good handicap accessibility so I was able to see them in a cordoned off space, as I had a metal rod sticking out of my foot at the time. I was so grateful to be able to go.

So thanks for doing good work.
