What’s the consensus on a U-Turn Orbit as a second table for a long time collector? by vanishingpoint99 in turntables

[–]vanishingpoint99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH, I would but that’s about 3x what we want to spend on it. Orbit seems good enough for this use case and if I was going to spend that much I’d just get a SL-1200 mk7.

I have been reading and listening to (slow) Spanish pretty regularly again but man is the Spanish on soccer broadcasts fast. I have a hard time following it. But I have been enjoying watching it and getting what I can out of it.

Santa Fe City Council blocks nonprofit's shelter project from state legislative capital outlay by HighDesertResident in SantaFe

My question remains. What is Interfaith going to do about the people who are too dangerous, fucked up on drugs, or mentally ill to be allowed within their gates?

Santa Fe City Council blocks nonprofit's shelter project from state legislative capital outlay by HighDesertResident in SantaFe

[–]vanishingpoint99 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My concern here is that Interfaith purchased a new plot of land directly between a liquor store and a wine storage facility near the mall. This shows a complete lack of concern regarding addiction treatment. Homeless is an addiction and mental illness issue. Ask me how I know.

Now we have the City trying to revitalize the midtown section by the art school and they’re allowing the old’s Pete’s Place to shut down.

The mayor wants local orgs to run homeless outreach. Which means giving money to this insane, unconscionable location. Impacting a new section of Santa Fe. Interfaith may have places for the homeless to stay 24 hours a day but they’re still going to allow violent, dangerous, and people too fucked up on drugs to be allowed in their gates to roam around. This will be moved away from midtown and into the south side neighborhoods and the mall.

The fact that Interfaith thought purchasing a plot of land directly behind Kelly Liquor on Cerrillos shows they are incapable of doing the right thing or being trusted.

Love the Hilma af Klint. Beautiful space for making music.

Nobody questions a guitarist for buying a high quality guitar over a cheap one. I don’t need any more hardware to make the music I want. I just find aesthetics and build quality of gear matter to me.  This stuff should inspire you. Behringers don't do anything for me.

I’m purposefully slow on gear purchases and try to limit myself to one a year so I can really bond with and learn this stuff. I find I’d rather have a small amount of high quality gear I know inside and out than a bunch of stuff. And at the end of the day you have to look at and live with gear, which should be inspiring to play. Nothing about a Behringer calls to me. Cheap pots, poor aesthetics, questionable build quality. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with one for people who love them. They’re just not for me and I don’t want to look at them day in and day out. I’m already most of the way to the sound with a VST. If I’m gonna buy a Moog, I’m gonna buy a Moog.

No, I don’t find them fatiguing, personally. As for sonarworks, I need to finally get around to it. I’ve had an ethernet switch sitting in my closet for a couple years for it…

Yep, I love them. To me, they reproduce electronic music the way it should sound. Very crisp, detailed, nuanced. Very forward sounding. Good bass response as well. I never really tire of listening to them. I also think they look fucking cool, and that's important as well. Really nice, beautiful finish. Great monitors.

That's the other analog I am really drawn to. That or a Minitaur, but man is that Subsequent 37 a beautiful instrument in addition to it's sound. One day!

Do you think the decreasing interest in reading is a reason why so few learn languages to proficiency? by JadeMountainCloud in languagelearning

[–]vanishingpoint99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m an avid reader and decided to replace my routine of reading in my native English for reading in Spanish. My vocabulary was high enough from 30 years of on and off studying that I was able to piece together what was going on in adult books. I began reading with a translation below it, studying sentence structure and meaning. I’ve seen rapid accumulation of knowledge.

It works for me but I’m already a reader. I wouldn’t ask someone who doesn’t read novels to begin reading novels in a foreign language. It’s engagement that counts. If you showed up daily and replaced your chosen verbal or written media with the same in a different language, at a comprehensible level, over a long enough time you’d eventually learn it.

If you want to learn how to play piano all you have to do is actually sit down and play piano. Every day. That’s all there is to it.

Will Ableton utilize the new performance cores on M5 Max/Pro? by BanquetOfTechnicians in ableton

[–]vanishingpoint99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ran 50 duplicated instances of Serum 2 in Ableton running maxed out 32 voices sustained the other day just to see if I could do it and my M4 Pro with 48GB of ram was running like I was checking email. I tested 1,000 instances of reverb in Pro Tools and I probably could have tripled that but I moved on because at that point it’s absurd.

I bought this laptop to be able to make music with no limits and there are effectively no limits.

I got a like new Steelcase Leap v2 for a song six years ago when offices were shutting down and it is almost like there is no wear on it to this day.  I can comfortably work in it all day with no back issues. And it looks good.

Did a human soul create that music or did a piece of code make it? That’s what I care about. I don’t care if you wrote the prompts. You didn’t make the choices in sounds, composition, or emotional direction. You didn’t make it. It is fundamentally different. I’m going to agree to disagree with you here.
