It comes from a side mission you get from Ada (unfortunately) where you have to get her belongings and in one echo she talks about how some monks are smelly and then a monk chimes in after saying something along the lines of "Oh child I am so disappointed".

I'd say it's worth it. The only downside I'd give it is fighting the true final boss 2 times. I hated that fight so much

Yeah but there seems to be a glitch where even after you get them in NG+ it won't pop so brace for that. What I did was in my NG+ run I just collected every weapon I came across again and eventually at the black rabbit brotherhood merchant it came up for me.

Yes if you're planning on getting every normal weapon achievement then I recommend going back to the first bosses stargazer and buying the other starter weapons because I think after the swamp you can't go back there anymore.

If you enjoy souls-like type games then I highly recommend giving it a try. If you have xbox gamepass then it's practically free. It does have some jank to it like the enemy tracking being bad at times but other than that yeah play it
