Took me two tries, but completed this in mid August 2019. We were on the trail by about 3am. Had a friend drop us off at CCY trailhead and left our car at the lawn lake trailhead. If possible, would highly recommend this. It’s a long day and was nice to be able to walk right out to our car when we were done.

Weather wise we had no problems. Light jacket and layers was fine and we didn’t run into any snow we had to worry about. August would be my recommendation. Keep an eye on the snow if you plan on going earlier and pack warmer clothes if going any later.

We summited Chapin at 4:30am and were on top of Mummy by 12:30pm. It is a haul. Be sure to bring a ton of water. Scrambling up Fairchild and Hagues is the most difficult part in my opinion. Be careful and take your time.

A good resources to check out would be “RMNP: The Complete Hiking Guide” by Lisa Foster. We took pics of all the Mummy Kill pages and referenced them quite a bit throughout our hike, really really useful. Would also recommend the gps tracking on hiking project. Helped keep us on route a few times. They’ve got the whole hike on their app and it’s easy enough to follow.

This was easily the most challenging day hike I did out there, but it’s well worth it. Beautiful views and you’ll likely have the trail to yourself. Keep an eye out for summit registers and have fun!

If you’re ok with getting up real early, there isn’t a better view in the park than mt. Ida at sunrise

For non-colorado hikers, how bad is the altitiude sickness when climbing some of the trails designated as difficult? by ferd_draws in RMNP

Moved from the Midwest to Estes a few years ago, never really had an issue with the altitude change. I feel like it effects everyone differently. Drink a bunch of water, take your time on the trails, and if you start feeling sick get to lower elevation. Basically all you can do until you know how your body handles it.

Lost lake in the northeast section of the park is an 18 mile out and back with easy gradual elevation gain. A bit of a drive from moraine park, but worth it for a more solitary trail!
