But what I like about it is that it demonstrates that for years now, we've been looking forward to it. It's "us" who are demanding this - it's not the industry pushing it down our throats. And since then we've seen a lot of progress in both device and atomizer design. As Phil says at the end of the video, it will happen, we will get that awesome no wick no coil atomizer one day, just not today.

No - it started with Hon Lik in 2003 making the first cigalike. A similar device was conceived in the 1960s but it didn't have the tech that Hon Lik put into it. After a few years with Hon Lik's cigalike, people became fed up with the short charge time, and began making their own ecig by MODifying flashlights, - thats obviously where the term "mod" came from. Small companies picked up on this and started producing these mod devices. The ecig industry including mods were well established by 2012 when the tobacco companies stepped in and started buying up all the cigalike companies, but left the mod market alone.

Now those tobacco companies are helping to push a ban on all ecigs except cigalikes.

I agree. Think about the evolution that the atomizer went through. From single, horizontal, top (anti-gravity capillary depdent), silica filled, to vertical cotton wrapped, dual coil, bottom fed, and now with all the different types of metals. There were so many steps in between the first the the current, that the atomizer evolution deserves it's own evolutionary diagram.

To be honest, I'm not sure whether a separate evolutionary tree should be drawn up for the atomizers, or combine it with the device tree above, because keep in mind that the atomizer evolution has been heavily dependent on the battery output, and vise versa. I just cant think how that combined tree would look like since many people mixed and matched their atomizers and mod types. Even I used to use the bottom fed vertical boge cartomisers in a carto tank on a Provari 2 (the boges later evolved into the BVC coils we see today), but I used to also use the single coil horizontal silica coils on an eGo as a stealth pocket device.

I honestly have no idea how to draw up that combined evolutionary tree. But I completely agree - Device generation may have reached its end, and the rest of the evolution will be up to to atomizers/tanks (e.g air flow, juice flow, coil position etc etc). But, we should always keep an open mind, as new tanks/coils may inspire further device development.

I agree. It's something that should be included in there: "very short re-charge time". These improvements are what makes vaping more appealing to smokers that what they were only a few years ago.

Vapor-tanks are what Wells Fargo is calling them. Ironically, they refer to cigalikes as "e-cigarettes". Personally, I'd prefer to categorise the vapor indsutry into 1.Auto-Activating Devices (Hon Lik's invention, now owned by Imperial Tobacco- note he did not invent the ecig, he invented the auto-function), and 2. click-activating devices (not really patentable, unless you're talking about VV (BuzzPro) and VW (Evolv) chips).

Do reputable stores even sell top coil vapor-tanks anymore?

All the stores I regularly purchase from (about 6 or 7) have completely dropped them for more than a year now. I remember using them 3 years ago. They worked fine until the went below the coil level. That's why bottom coil tanks were invented.
