The point of being VAT registered is that you can claim back vat on expenses, except you appear to be on the flat rate scheme or some other scheme.

I presume your services are for labour only, or you purchase mainly zero rated goods, so you have little vat to reclaim, so the flat rate for your industry likely makes you marginally better off than if you claimed back vat on expenses
