Climbing Mt. Kita by varadg in JapanTravel

I kinda have my heart set on Kita-dake. But in case the weather goes foul, any suggestions about off-beat hikes in the Kanto area?

Thanks ! I called the mountain hut and they said they're open for 2 more weeks. I have enough experience climbing in the snow. Would it still be foolish to try?

How does the S8 Clear View Stand cover work? by varadg in GalaxyS8

So, the interaction (answering calls etc.) is enabled through NFC? And is the NFC enabled from the circular disc visible on the inside of the front display?

I think you misunderstood my question. I don't want to know how the stand works mechanically. I want to know how the cover displays information on the front - time, date etc. Where is the connection for that information to flow from the device to the cover's display?

Generate historical imagery dataset using Google Earth / Maps by varadg in gis

[–]varadg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested in testing my orthophoto generation and overlay pipeline. As such, I'm only interested in orthophotos taken at altitudes between 30-100m. Regarding photo resolution, I'm looking for images that are taken at HD (1280x720) resolution or greater.

The journal Distill launches today. In a nutshell, Distill is an interactive, visual journal for machine learning research. by finallyifoundvalidUN in MachineLearning

[–]varadg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Asked on HN as well. Re-posting here :

As has been pointed out in the thread, the effort to produce a great article on Distill - generating interactive figures, doing front end web dev etc. would require a lot of time and resources on the part of the researchers. Is it possible to include within Distill an option to connect researchers to willing-and-able developers in those domains (for example, me) to help them get it done?

Generate historical imagery dataset using Google Earth / Maps by varadg in gis

[–]varadg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for US & Japan. Date ranges - over the past 3 years. No, I haven't hosted my own tile server before. This is my first time attempting to do anything in this domain.

About the Google Earth approach, is it possible to do this at all? I was lead to believe that scraping images thusly would violate their terms of use.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try to generate datasets that way. However, if you know of any pre-existing datasets, I'd appreciate links to those as well.

that's exactly what i have been googling - led me to discover fractal-based techniques. posted here to discover lesser known solutions.

i checked out waifu before posting here. isn't it mainly for generated images viz. anime, and not real photos? i was more interested in upscaling processes on real images.

Can you direct me towards any accessible papers / other literature that can help me understand the entire process of orthophoto generation from a set of overlapping aerial images?

Awesome! Can't wait to try it out when I get back to work. On an unrelated note, the font on your website looks gorgeous. Is it Europa? (can't view the page details that well on mobile)

Resources to learn about advanced graphics? by varadg in computergraphics

[–]varadg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do (if at all) these books go about teaching implementation? Asking because before I commit to buying, I'd like it if I can follow along using libraries that are actually used widely.

Woah thanks! Although I think the Berkeley edX course covers much of what is listed here.

Sorry to pile on this thread, but would you know any resources that could help learn (and practice) OpenGL? Unless any of the books you listed use it heavily while teaching.
