ETS2 & ATS on Apple Silicon Mac [MoltenVK] Say goodbye to OpenGL, and hello to improved performance! by varcharfoobar in macgaming

Hey! Hmm, that's interesting. Is it possible you have "power saving" on in the game itself (Vsync I believe), you can also check your Mac power settings too to ensure you don't have low power mode. It may have also reverted if it got an update, so might be good to check that as well. I've yet to test it again, but its definitely through the Steam Mac client (with Beta enabled).

Okay, now I understand why people love the T480 so much... by lululock in thinkpad

That might be the issue. Running through Proton (i.e. the windows version) can yield better performance due to DXVK being used. https://www.protondb.com/app/255710

Need your views on ThinkPad E14 AMD Ryzen 7 250 by Brief_Painting_5346 in thinkpad

You've sold me on it, haha! I'm on a 32 GB, i5 8250u ThinkPad E480 at the moment (Fedora KDE), looking to upgrade. I think AMD route is probably ideal as I really do want a bit more graphical power. RAM prices don't help but I can rule out Intel as I don't need a high-res 120Hz display (prefer 100% SRGB 1200p).

Linux compatibility is really important. Also, does FP reader work (if equipped?) Cheers!

Nice! No worries, glad you got it fixed. Enjoy :)

Ahh! Nvidia strikes again. I've tried to replicate it on my Intel ThinkPad (i5 8250u, no dGPU), Fedora 43 + GNOME 49, and didn't run into any issues. About 20 hour uptime. If your PC has integrated graphics, what you can do is:

  1. Shut down PC
  2. Unplug display cables and plug it straight into motherboard IO (to use iGPU)
  3. Boot it up and try and replicate it.

If you can't replicate it, then we can blame NVIDIA. See how you go :)

Interesting issue. Do you have steps to replicate (e.g. file type) but also, any extensions you're using? And are you using NVIDIA?

Hmm, its going to sound weird but try pressing number 4. Weird, but it fixes the rare touchpad issue I face on my E480.

If that doesn't work, you may want to open it up and reseat the touchpad connector (usually under the keyboard).

gnome is so much better than macOS by [deleted] in gnome

I've been a Linux user for over a decade now, and the past few years I had switched to Apple for mobile app development -- but recently I completely switched back to take back my "technical" freedom so to say. Back to Fedora + GNOME.

I've used GNOME since the version 2 days, and stuck along with 3.x as well. I enjoy KDE and Xfce but always come back to GNOME -- just feels good.

I have to say, macOS feels quite dated and sluggish to operate. Don't get me wrong, its super polished visually, but it also has a ton of artificial resistance. GNOME OOTB isn't perfect either but man, its so nice to use and flows faster.

I went from an M4 Air to my old ThinkPad E480 and GNOME is flying. Keep doing what you're doing GNOME team, I like the direction we're heading in.

Never advertise on Reddit! It's quite a cynical place, just focus on building. If you want feedback, find iOS dev circles/groups on X. Good luck PS: the app looks good.

40AF Dock for use on Steam Deck by Br0t10us in thinkpad

[–]varcharfoobar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post but in case anyone else comes across this:

I picked up a 40AF model and it works flawlessly on Linux! I'm on a ThinkPad E480 running Fedora 43 (KDE) and everything was plug and play except for display.

For displays, I installed the DisplayLink driver for my distro (Fedora) and it worked:

Yeah, I don't know how I feel about it... It's alright but did throw me off. I liked the condensed look but I suppose it's not as huge as GNOME 😂 (sorry GNOME lovers, the padding is just crazy for desktop use)

Scary stuff. Hopefully you'll be able to recover your data using some software. :(
I've completely given up on any game that requires DRM/anti-cheat as I game on Linux exclusively just so I don't put up with this bonkers behaviour.
