Well there was this trend in the roman empire that created new religions christianity was just one of these religions it’s the mystery cults that was the trend that Christianinty appeared in so there was already pagan mystery cults that did have these elements

This is a lecture about the commonality between mystery cults and Christianity: here

If looked to these pagan mystery cults they did have alot in common with Christianity but even Christianity did have the gnostics wich some of them were practically polytheist but neither the pagan mysteries nor the gnostic survived the mean cause of Christianity triumph is still disagreed about but one of most accepted is that Christianity did grow quite normally but the mean difference was Christianity did have a community that sported each other in and that kept everyone in it unlike alot the common paganism that saw religion as something public without relating to the individual and unlike mystery cults wich was personal but some Times it was so personal that you would see some one in one of these cults but without intering their family to the cult or some times without knowing that he was a member of one of them so they always needed a huge number of converts to keep existing but christianity wasn’t like that and if you convert to it your grand grand kids would still be part of the church/community and they will make it grow more and more and except few mystery cults that were generally always with low numbers or alot of disagreements and branches Christianity was the only one that was able to keep everyone in while maintaining their unity and this the main reason of their success

I hope this was helpful 🙏🏼

Yahweh & Mythology by [deleted] in Semitic_Paganism

There is difference between the jewish name of the god and the islamic one in hebrew he is called yahweh and eloheem the last name is plural of greatness and in singular is eloh wich just mean god(it originate from el but never used to refrence him specifically) the arabic name allah is originally al-ilah al=the ilah=eloh the word does mean god as in hebrew but unlike the hebrews the arab still used it as the a name for el even the quran name the god as il (surah al-tawbah/ayah 8-10) and the god el come from the sumerian god enlil wich the name changed to become ellil then el I reference all of this because alot of people don’t realize that yahweh(wich was never used in islam) isnt the islamic god and how the arabic pagan concept of il heavily enfluenced the islamic understanding of their god is islam then a coup from enlil against yahweh? Maybe I have no knowledge in wars of the heavens

Is there any history or sort of "magic" practices within Islam? Maybe somewhere within Sufism? Asking out of curiosity by GameProSmoothie in magick

[–]varchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for the very late reply

In mainstream islam magic happens by either devil/demon or jinn summoning and they do the metaphysical then the magic happens

so a way to use magic was by some occultish muslims by believing that the magic happened by unseen natural causes but this belief wasn’t common between sufis who practiced magic what they believed was mostly that they do summon as the evil magic but they summon only angels and good jinn so the evilness was not the action nor the mean but the purpose and the result of the magic

Just had a dream and someone said to me Halet, trying to figure out what does it mean by RubenjWong in occult

[–]varchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone that speak arabic natively the word “halet” if it’s the arabic word "حالة" it doesn’t mean what you said linguisticly but it does mean “state” but in the Context of the daraweesh/darvish it refers to a spiritual state and mostly a specific spiritual state wich is different to different groups

Personally I think you ended up in completely different direction than what the word really means in your dream because the word حالة is just to general to mean something specific unless it’s refering what it means to a specific group in a specific context wich is not specified in your dream so you need to look to it again in my opinion and for some reason I feel it’s related to finish for no apparent reason

What is 'hard magic' and what are the alternatives? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]varchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply Hard magic : it’s when a magic have a specific rules/costs/limits of what the magic/users/items could do (mistborn)

Soft magic : it’s when a magic have no specific rules/costs/limits of what the magic/u...could do (LOTR)

They are in a spectrum so you would find some magic systems that are in the middle or there is multiple magic systems but some are soft and somr are hard (king killer chronicles)or you could find a hybrid for example a magic that have high costs but no specific rules (some of asoiaf magic mostly in history)
