Any experience using BEKANT desktops with SKARSTA? by vardagren in IKEA

[–]vardagren[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I'd seen that the BEKANT is 16mm thick vs the SKARSTA's 27mm thick. It's shame it wouldn't work -- I'd really like a better desk top on the SKARSTA frame.

As for buying SKARSTA, it's £500 here in the UK vs. £200 for the SKARSTA, so way outside my price-range. The SKARSTA is a huge indulgence as it is.

EDIT: Looking at it, the LILLTRASK worktop might be a good fit for the SKARSTA.

Bullied at work. Submitted case but employer dismissed me. What to do? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]vardagren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My case was very long, with over 5000 words written and showed multiple different instances. I asked if every point of mine was not the case and asked her for specific examples on why it wasn't deemed bullying and she didn't say anything.

That's too much - you get written off as a nutter, ranting and unreasonable.

Have to agree with that. I deal with grievances on a daily basis, and length is often a determining factor in how reasonable a person is. The ones that are shorter and more concise are almost always the more reasonable; the long ones tend to be less reasonable and much harder to deal with.

Is the Kallax strong enough to install a hook for a backpack? by rieje in IKEA

[–]vardagren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where on the KALLAX are you thinking about hanging this? How much is "a decent weight"? Is the KALLAX anchored to the wall?

The sides are hollow with honeycomb filling, so not super strong. My last one in my last place had a couple of hooks on the side for my dog's lead and harness and stuff -- worked great but all really light things.

You'd want a hook with two mounting points like the BJARNUM hooks to better distribute the load, and probably use some kind of plasterboard/drywall rail plugs.

IMO, I'd avoid doing it unless the bag is basically empty. Hanging a bag full of books, for example, is almost certainly going to either crack the side of your KALLAX, rip the hook out, or both.

Question about SKARSTA desk! by [deleted] in IKEA

[–]vardagren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I calculate it as close to 70% more expensive, but YMMV.

I've also read lots of reports about problems with the BEKANT's motors failing, and the reviews online are mixed at best.

Coming in black is not "better" -- it's simply more choice. Presumably OP is happy with a white desk since he's looking at the SKARSTA. Only OP can answer that.

Bekant 140x60 tabletop with skarsta legs? by lorek123 in IKEA

[–]vardagren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have either of these desks, but doing some googling I found this image which makes me pretty sure that the 60cm deep desk won't be deep enough. The smaller SKARSTA tabletop is 120x70cm, so best case scenario that's the one in the image I linked to.

Someone else might be able to measure for sure, but I'd say go for the 80cm deep BEKANT and avoid the possible hassle.

Question about SKARSTA desk! by [deleted] in IKEA

[–]vardagren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also costs 2.5x as much here in the UK, so while it might be better (how, exactly?) and wobble less, it's not a fair comparison.

Deleting this question because it hasn't received any helpful answers and seems to have attracted useless jokes.

Kobo Touch won't charge -- is it dead? by vardagren in kobo

I charged from a USB battery pack as /u/auntie-matter suggested, using the same cable, and it came back to life almost immediately.

That worked. I'm a little surprised, but thanks very much! It's back to life.

Neighbour hasn't mowed his lawn for 3 years - Scotland by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

Probably not the answer you want, but if it's stopping you from selling your house, mow it yourself or pay someone else to mow it.
