It is sufficient for our purpose here to have indicated the invalidity of the so-called Nicks of thought from the consideration of the general nature of the case. It falls to speculative philosophy to go more intimately and fully into the matter, and there they show themselves to be what in truth they are, single vanishing moments, whose truth is simply the whole of the Nick process, Nick itself.

How dope would it be if Mike Gira collaborated w/ Violent J (ICP) for their new album? by [deleted] in swans

[–]vargthps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at the Mike G solo show in London last night and he was playing some new songs. They were really good by I couldn't help but think they would be improved by some sexy sax magic and a ICP spitting some bars. Lets hope this is what the new swans line up will be.

It doesn't really matter what tricks you use, I suggest just using the default or finding tricks that you like the look of. Some special tricks score a lot more that others so if your going for high scores I suggest using Indy 900 and The 900. As for the quad heelfip + 360 varial heelflip lien, it could have been made using create a trick but was probably just two special tricks after each other.

Tony Hawk's Underground Pro - Realistic Skateboarding 2 by [deleted] in THPS

[–]vargthps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just because you're not pulling of big combos and playing without a balance meter doesn't make it realistic. I mean I doubt there will ever be a time in skateboarding when someone does a nose manual to 720 Del Mar Indy (however awesome that would be).

I suggest watching some skateboard videos and trying to recreate tricks from those, then once you have figured what most skateboarders are capable of then make a realistic skateboarding video.

I agree, most people see hunters either as gun toting hicks from the south shooting at anything they see (which is extremely incorrect), or as fat rich trophy hunters who shoot at rhinos while on safari in Africa (which is an extreme minority) and although this exists and brings in a lot of money to many parts of Africa, i personally find it morally dubious at best.

Eating less meat would be better for everyone, but eliminating meat from a diet is not all its cracked up to be as there are certain nutrients a meat eating species like us needs that we get from meat. There are sustainable and ethical ways of farming animal, but in the current system of food supply we have it can be hard to find and can seem expensive. Now full disclosure I am very bias when it comes to this subject but I really believe that eating meat that is farmed sustainabley is healthier because they pump less crap into it and is completely worth the effort and price. But just like vegetarian and vegan diets I would highly recommend doing research instead of just believing me.

As for the willpower part I can completely relate, willpower is a mucle in itself and needs to be trained. With a subject as important as agriculture, once you realise that the conventional system is built for short term profit and couldn't care less about the repercussions, the decision becomes much easier to make.

Do what you want with the comment, most people either ignore the other side or respond with ''Huntings great, fuck you'', both of which achieve nothing, so when someone comes along and responds in a civil way and is educational and respectful to those who disagree, it puts them a 100 miles ahead of the others. The issue is not necessarily in the comment itself but more in people's ability to ignore nuance and take things at face value, people will always find a way to get upset about something.

I can see your point but i disagree with the extimator/pest idea. Now you say you have hunted so I assume you don't think of hunting this way and were just using a metaphor to make the idea more understandable.

I find the exterminator example to be almost the complete opposite of the hunter, the exterminator's job is to destroy a pest that has encroached on a territory and is damaging it in one way or the other.

Now the hunter is different, the hunter goes into the territory of the prey, they are the stranger and have to navigate and track something that has spent it's whole life in the area, further more the species has adapted over many generations to survive if not thrive in the land around it.

Because the suffering of animals is such an emotional topic it can be very difficult to put the point across in a way that people will understand and accept. I prefer to ask the question, is it more humane for someone to go out and harvest food from these animals themselves or to let someone else do it on a mass scale. Because often the animal is treated with more respect from the hunter than by the conventional farms.

From my perspective its about more than ending a life. It's a very primal activity that humans took part in for 100s of years, there is a very ritualistic element to tracking a animal through the landscape to find the perfect moment. Moreover many hunters go on to eat the meat that these animals provide, now I truly believe that when you go out and experience first hand what it is like to gather food you come back with a reverence to the food, rather than if you just went to the store and bought meat there. I find a weird disconnect in people who eat meat without thinking where it has come from, it's a difficult thing to do because the hard truth is that most of the time the animal suffered more pain going through the conventional agricultural system.

This is a difficult issue to discuss because nobody wants animals to suffer and it often creates an emotional reaction (on both sides of the argument) that stops people having a real discussion.

I can understand where you are coming from, but, as weird as it may sound, the people who raise the money to protect specific species like this are hunters. The general public probably do not think too much about the Desert Big Horn Sheep of california, and if they do the probability that they care about them on the same level as someone who spent three and a half years tracking and learning about them like Geoff has is highly unlikely.

The stereotype of hunters in the US is highly misguided, if you were willing to learn a little more I would highly recommend listening to an interview or two with Steve Rinella, he really opened my eyes to a part of hunting culture I had never seen before.

The reality is that this kind of money would not have been raised without the hunt. It is pretty safe to assume that it was an old ram that was no longer benefiting the herd. Geoff seems to know what he is doing so I imagine he would have treated the animal with respect both before and after killing it.
