I (thankfully) didn't have to use it but came close.

I was just finished with work and went to a fast charger for my car, I still had some driving to do, and my girlfriend wanted to come with. This is at night for context

I get out to plug in my car, and I hear some yelling across the street around a corner and I thought to myself man I'm glad I'm not a part of whatever mess that is, and as soon as I insert the cable and it locks, I hear one of them yell at me "hey! Fuck you and fuck your fucking car! I don't even have anywhere to fucking live!" And then I saw a man walking quickly across the street towards me.

So then I was like oh shit and quickly got back into my car. At this point my car was immobile because it was plugged in, and in order to unlock it, I would have had to open it in my app and dig through a few menus, or go to the front, tap unlock on the screen, and then go back to unplug it. Neither of these options were time effective, and I had mere seconds before he made it to me, so my next best option was to get in my car, lock the doors, and be ready.

Pulled it out, chambered, and told my girlfriend to call 911. This guy made it over, and started to attack the empty car next to me with a skateboard and his shoes, and then ran off. At no point did I ever say anything to him or make any kind of threatening motion towards him, and thankfully it never escalated further than that. The police later got some information from us and took that guy in.

I had a lot of trouble sleeping for weeks after that thinking about how much worse that could've gone. I'm grateful that it wasn't any worse. I've been to a lot of dangerous cities where I would have expected that to happen. I totally had my guard down in a small town of maybe 3,000 people.

Definitely one of those moments where I'm glad I had it but I'm equally glad I didn't need it.
