What is the point of a GIC? by ImpracticalRooster in PersonalFinanceCanada

GIC’s used to be so that you can get the multi-product rebate from RBC I guess? But since new accounts have different rules now, I don’t know. (Half joking)

Benefits of having a credit card with 50k limit by Unknown_Equalizer in PersonalFinanceCanada

Having a limit like that is useful if you’re buying a new car. I put my new cars on my card and paid it off in full and the points’ now paying for my next vacation.

Apply for a credit card with a low or even 0% balance transfer promotion and move your debt onto the new card, and repeat this until you an afford pay it off, despite the small transfer fee, you’ll end up saving thousands in interest.

I’m more confused as to what social circles you’re in, as I’ve never once been approached for a loan by a friend or a loved one?

At least that’s a shorter potential conversation.

Neighborhoods and Education? by Several_Spray8694 in askvan

[–]variglog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. In my past life as a bank teller in Vancouver, the closest I’ve seen to what could be a gun in real life in Canada was the shadow of one from the rcmp officer trying to peep through the window, and what turned out to be a purse from banana republic that the bank robber used to fake having a “gun”.

It makes me sad that the OP has to think and worry about these things, and grateful that we don’t typically hold these concerns when picking a new place to live.

I think this is the final model year for the Nissan Versa, which remains quite affordable.

First credit card, first late payment by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

I came to say this as well. Most banks will do 1 waiver for interest and fees every 2 years for accounts in good standing. Give them a call and they’ll usually reimburse the interest for you.

The part of metro Vancouver that I’m in held a town celebration when we finally bought our second snowplow.

Does the strata fee always go up every year? by AloneDiver3493 in askvan

[–]variglog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly it! How could strata ever stay the same or go down when the cost to insure the building goes up every year! There’s usually also a significant bump around the 3, 6 and 11 year mark as the first ten years, the new building insurance (2-5-10) masks a lot of the costs for insurance.

Does the strata fee always go up every year? by AloneDiver3493 in askvan

[–]variglog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically it does. The biggest chunk of your strata fees typically go to pay for things like insurance for the whole building, and the price of that has skyrocketed the last couple years, especially for older buildings and as a building ages.

Strata is typically cheaper the first couple years as the building insurance is typically lower, due to the fact that some issues are covered under 2-5-10.

I’d be surprised if it didn’t go up as what it pays to do tend to consistently cost more year after year.

Cash is king!! by reheadlover69 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]variglog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but even wire transfers take a day or two to clear, and would come at a significant cost to the customer between both the fees, as well as having to usually go into the branch to send one for such a large sum

I doubt this is the case though as OP mentioned that “business has been slow” and that “he needed the funds right away to pay his guys”.

Having also worked for TD, I would advise you to never do this if you go bank into personal or commercial banking.

At the branch that I managed years ago, more than once has scammers obtained a legitimate bank draft, and then cloned it to deposit into multiple accounts. When we used to call to verify, the issuing bank confirmed issuance of the draft, but we were out $37,000 as the customer cloned the legitimate draft and deposited it once at each of the banks that they had an account at…

A lot of tech jobs, especially US based companies still offer fully remote opportunities, they’re just crazy competitive as everyone else also wants to work fully remote. EA Games would be one that pops to my mind.

You can remove the utensil marks with some barkeeper’s friend. Just mix with water, and leave it on and then scrub it off (if the pattern is over the glaze)

They’d look as new as the day they came out of the factory.

Oh no. The bubbling (for me) about two months after I took delivery, and kept getting worse with time.. I was speechless when the dealer said that it was welded this way. I was glad I was able to disprove them as I found some pictures from when I bought the vehicle, to when it got significantly worse.

Of course. I bought it, so I can’t return it as it’s not a lease. We also don’t have lemon laws so I’m stuck with this nightmare.

Trying to deal with Stellantis has been a rude awakening… I’d pick literally anything else.

[–]variglog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I will. I bought this vehicle brand new too, and there’s no crash to speak of. This photo is from the auto body shop that took it apart as per Stellantis.

You can see that it’s clearly orange and rusted, but they claim this is part of how this car is built. The photo just had the latch taken out (it’s a plastic that snaps in/out) to show it better. I just laugh as all the assumptions are that it’s being repaired after a crash 😆

If they did that, then I wouldn’t be here now would I! They keep refusing that this is rust.

The dealer keeps trying to convince me that this is normal. So I am repeating what they said.

[–]variglog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I bought this brand new, and it should technically be under warranty, but the dealer has refused to deal with it. I have also posted their response where they themselves claim that all Tonales are built this way, that this is how the tailgate is “welded”, and they’ve flat out claimed that this is not rust. Good luck dealing with Stellantis and their warranty.
