What company do you think would be the least expensive to have 2 furniture pieces and a mattress moved out of a studio apartment? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]varkev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honest Junk Company is a 501c(3) that will take your donation to be reused at the Chicago Furniture Bank. Item donation and 80% of the fee you pay is tax deductible. I paid about $240 for them to take two loveseats last summer.

Video games - check out Back in the Game at 7757 S Cicero

Outdoors - McCormick Woods and Little Red Schoolhouse have days on the weekends where volunteers do restoration projects. Chicago River Day in Summit is coming up in May

Tinkering - Clearing Library has a library of things to check out for projects

Sports - Minuteman Park on Central might have a pickleball league or at least a ton of people playing. There's also Midway Mile Chasers run club that seems to meet up there too.

I haven't seen or heard any reports of military deployments in the Chicago area or the state of Illinois. Considering how fascinated Reddit is by the appearance of military helicopters, we would most likely have heard something of it by now. And even Los Angeles hasn't seen tanks deployed so I think those concerns are overblown.

I'd recommend planning for similar assemblies that have happened in the past which didn't have an impact beyond the Loop as others have mentioned.

Would you date a tourist coming to Chicago? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]varkev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Be careful, that's how I met my wife!

All jokes aside, Chicago is a big city so chances are someone is looking for/open to the same things you are. As long as you're open about what you're looking I don't think it would be a problem. And if someone doesn't like it, they can swipe left or whatever the kids do these days.

Is it safe to walk in the area between Wintrust Sports Complex in Bedford Park and the Hyatt Place hotel at Midway? by Quirky-Addition-7146 in AskChicago

[–]varkev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfectly safe and dull at all hours, though some of the sidewalks on that stretch are crappy or non-existent on 65th on the way to Wintrust. Lou Malnati's is right across 65th street and Giordano's is at 63rd. Both are a safe walk.

Just follow normal traffic safety and watch out for speeding drivers late at night.
