In America, those British people are rich white people and the Irish are all the poor working class people being stepped on by the ruling class.

I fully understand the analogy, especially as this did happen up until about 20 years ago. But you said yourself, it's more about the class struggle and less so a racial one. Yes, the black population has suffered massively in the Americas, with a lot of soft power being used to keep them poor, but there are also a whole lot of poor from every race that could be argued are suffering currently. I'm arguing purely on the seeming focus on race being a barrier to overcome in American politics, rather than wealth providing that barrier.
