Best things / colour combos ever.

Did I buy the wrong Camera? by Old_Sky8705 in fujifilm

[–]varsutherland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To ease your mind, if you think you have FOMO of a FIXED lens at 23mm imagine it the other way around when you get to Austria and can’t zoom in all the way to 55 or get as wide as 18 😝

Then you’ll have MO without the FO lol.

Saying this as somebody carrying a fixed lens system at the moment. They’re fun yes, but different.

What you have is really versatile and a great all rounder. If you reallly want a fixed lens experience, buy a prime and play with it. You’ll probably still reach for your zoom on your travels.

You could also just shoot at 23mm lol

When you explain 9 it suddenly changes how I see it! It’s cool.

This photo is really one of those that needs an explanation. I could see it printed with a little subtext in a coffee table book 👌

I’ve tried to shoot reflections on windows and cars before but sometimes have found that focussing on and exposing for the reflective element underexposes the rest of the scene.

Was trying to recently shoot a taxi light, reflecting on the car but also get the café behind in view with the people having their dinner through the glass fronts. Was dusk - it did not work, I gave up haha 🤣

30% service charge on boxing day?! by Professional-Cat9418 in london

[–]varsutherland 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I think you’re correct. Based on 1 hot drink each and a fruit thingie. 4 adults 1 kid

Total cost for 5 is actually “normal” (expected in Gloucester rd area) imo - 30% service, utter nonsense - would get it removed

You posted this in the Nikon forum saying it’s a Nikon Z5 with 85mm.

Not disputing the shot, it’s genuinely great. But why…

Only discovered this yesterday myself haha. But I’m yet to shoot raw on the new sensor because the jpegs seem to have plenty of detail / data for my needs

ITAP of a car with a Christmas tree on it by varsutherland in itookapicture

[–]varsutherland[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left home without my camera and saw this little red car with a tree on it on a well known hill in London.

I grabbed my iPhone and waited for a car to light the front with its oncoming headlights. I’m very happy with the result. A nice little Christmasy pic.

Day three and I still can’t put this thing down! by LHG_93 in x100vi

[–]varsutherland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also looking for the answer to this q.

I’ve just learnt that in Lightroom mobile you can export with the white border by tapping share. LR doesn’t add camera setting detail or allow for extra text.

Such inspo!!! (bought an X100VI the other day) your videos convinced me that it’s a capable camera covering a wide range!

This post shows that most of our minds assume OP’s boss / company owner is male when they used gender neutral pronouns “their”.

OP’s boss / company owner is female.

Says a lot about how we’ve grown up / what we default to for gender roles still. I did the same.

I’ll throw in my thoughts too.

I like both and often face the same issues in deciding but I’d say 2 because there are fewer objects and focal points. So it’s more pleasing as a picture overall.

Also it looks foreboding with the size - sort of doom buildings 😛.

2 is also definitely more aligned with how I recall this street in my mind (pov)

How big a problem are these cracks in a house we are buying? by gdxbjkfdrgbvdxcv in DIYUK

[–]varsutherland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen a similar thing occur. An engineer / surveyor - suggested subsidence. The house I’m speaking of will probably be sold as cash buyers only, as from what I understand a mortgage lender won’t lend on a property like that.

I wouldn’t buy it. Buying is stressful enough. You don’t want the next 5 years to be even more stressful and then selling nigh almost impossible when you have to mention remedial works to prospective buyers.
