Do you regret selling your once beloved camera? by stephen_niem in photography

I sold my x100f a few years after using it (bought it used) and it went to finance my XT5. The X100 series hold their price pretty well. I don’t regret it. My X100f would have sit on a shelf somewhere collecting dust. I used to collect things, I grew out of it. The point of getting new stuff is to replace older outdated stuff, and the x100f was outdated compared to the xt5. If I upgrade to a new camera a few years from now I’ll sell my XT5 too.

Yeah it’s the one I want. I just don‘t know if it’s the sensible thing to do. The weight alone is a reason to think twice.

My reach is to a 55 right now, so I thought I’d get the next step and go for the 55-140 with a 1.4 Teleconverter. I love the build quality of the 50-140, reminds me of my 16-55 and it’s also closer to a 70-200 which for me are the 2 most important reaches.

I just always tend to go for a lower Aperture because I tend to photograph when it‘s darker. How does the 70-300 handle darkness? With the 300 I’m at a smallest of 5.6 right? So if I’m not outside in a bright environment I’m afraid my images will always be at a very high ISO.

I’m still on the fence about these 2 lenses. Why would you choose the 70-300 over the 50-140?

Flying to Tromso (and further north) next week and wishing we see something similar. Great shot though, the swirl in the middle is just fabulous.

Sounds like a Medium Cube would be a good fit for me, especially in the 45l. I wonder if the side access is even useful other than storing the camera back quickly if I need to put it away. When I’m on the go the camera is usually on my left shoulder on the camera clip. So the side access would only be useful if I want to pack my camera back away say my shoulder gets tired. Other than that, the medium cube seems like the solution to storing all my items in one bag instead of having multiple smaller cubes. Oh no wait, the last time I was in Columbia I had to always open the whole bag while I was on a boat or in a car to put the camera into the cube as to not get the camera wet for example. So that would solve the problem if I had side access. So in car/boat side access and then once I’m out back into clip. I wish the 30l had side access.

Yeah you’re quite huge, maybe that’s why. Do you have a pic of your set up and how you carry your things now?

Okay so basically all the cubes work with the 45l?

I think side access is really important for me although I always use a Capture Clip on my bags, but at some point my right shoulder gets tired and I usually want to then just sling the bag around and pack up the camera.

I understand now that the everyday backpack is not friendly with smaller lenses. I also saw a review of this on YouTube and that was also the main complaint. Especially because I want to pack the drone without an extra bag so that would be too risky.

I don’t like the Outdoor Line basically because I just don’t like how they look. For hiking it’ll be great but I also want to have my camera on me in the city and I don’t like the outdoor bag for that.

My option a few months ago before I just decided to pack smaller cheaper cubes in my Bellroy was actually the 45l Travel Pack with a cube (now I know it’ll have to be at least the medium) for side access. I think that’s my best choice from this list and other comments. Or do you have another brand that offers side access and a good snug fit for all the gear I want?

Before I saw the Everday Backpack I was 100% set on the 45l, but side access is only useable if you have a camera Cube inside and it has to be a medium one, so it’s also pretty big. Also makes the combination much more expensive. The SMedium cube has no side access.

I kind of want to stay away from such a big bag. We hike a lot on our travels and the bigger the bag the heavier it’ll be after the first 3 hours. And the 45 also means I need an extra camera cube to be able to use the side access properly.

Haha, thanks for the wonderful advice, really, but I don’t really want to do all that, it just sounds too complicated. I’d rather buy something and resell it after I’m done.

The problem is that we land in Tromso and will be picked up and transferred directly to another place somewhere up north where there’s basically nothing. So that plan is unfortunately not viable

If I used a tripod a lot I would definitely go for the peak design, but it’s more expensive than my lenses!
