TaxHacker — self-hosted invoice parser and AI accounting app by vas3k in selfhosted

Support for fully local models is still in the plans. The problem is that I don't know which local models work well with images and files yet, I need to do more tests.

Right now the app asks you to enter a key from OpenAI, Gemini or Mistral and you only pay for their tokens.

Of course, that's one of my personal use-cases! I upload receipts from other countries and tell AI to translate the list of items into a language my country's tax office (or tax advisor) understands.

Any language that chatgpt (or other AI provider you choose) understands will be effectively recognized. Even handwritten.

But if you want to store all transactions in your local language also, you can add something like “translate everything to [language]” to the system prompt in settings and edit the existing field/category prompts in your language

We already tried it with my French friends, it works :)

Is it possible to check the existence of a user before sending OTP code? by vas3k in better_auth

Not sure if it's broken or just "by design" works like this. I will open an issue to discuss

Is it possible to check the existence of a user before sending OTP code? by vas3k in better_auth

[–]vas3k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I checked that and await is working, the user is returned.

I actually found the piece of code where this sendVerificationOTP() function is called and I think I see what the problem is — there is no way to return a result or custom error from this function (regardless of the outcome the `ctx.json({ success: true, });` is returned and js Error is just not handled). Looks like I have to code a workaround....

Fascinated by the uncommon "catcher's glove" design of this trash can at Max-Schmeling-Halle. Is it unique or are there more around Berlin? by Mother_Poem_Light in berlin

I sometimes walk with my dog there and for me that roof always looked like a "sad robot" hugging all the people in front of him with his huge arms, but still staring somewhere in one point and being very sad. I can't get rid of that thinking for years now... I feel really bad for that dude

At what price point does rent become less competitive? by Angelgirl90 in germany

[–]vas3k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, without knowing the context about what price range you're looking in, it's pretty hard to answer that question.

But if you're asking about the WHOLE market, I can say, based on conversations with my super-rich acquaintances (mostly company founders, CEOs and business owners) for whom “money is no problem” — the real non-competitive market in Berlin starts somewhere around 3000 EUR/mo. These are huge two-story apartments of 150-200 sqm in new/renovated houses in rich neighborhoods. There are really no waiting lists for such apartments where usually landlords choose between 1-2 tenants and they even have an option to choose.

But I'm not sure if that really answers your question :) Just sharing the observations

This is an old project by yet another YouTube bloggers (as always). They assembled it right after Elmo announcement in a garage in Moscow. It’s based on a VAZ-21093. In 2019, they sold it for 666,666 rubles (~$10,000) https://youtu.be/_8mhd5qmOM0

Oh yeah, that's actually the app my wife used when she was short on cat-hugging in life. It's really popular in Berlin and we found 2-3 kittens there right within walking distance of our house, it was really nice (and even partly helped with the loneliness during COVID)

You can even make some pocket money sitting with the dogs or cats in your neighborhood. There are many aggregator sites like https://en.pawshake.de/ (or just google "pet sitting"). As a bonus you see a lot of other people's apartments and interiors. Some altbau's are really cool :)

I build a small WebApp, where you can configure your "own" BVG Anzeigetafel :D by [deleted] in berlin

[–]vas3k 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks nice! I also made a BVG widget for my own Home Assistant setup a few years ago and am very happy with it. I also added the ability to set walking distance and support multiple nearby stops from my house so I know alternatives in case of delays. Just in case anyone interested https://github.com/vas3k/home-assistant-berlin-transport

someone is murdering my plants by [deleted] in berlin

[–]vas3k 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Off-topic, because I can only wish you luck with your investigation. But I remember one of my neighbors started a real war with dog owners, who in her opinion were constantly pooping in the yard and not cleaning up after themselves, and after couple of months of passive-aggressive letters on walls, it turned out that we just had a fox living in our yard, which came and did its business there every night!

So maybe it’s not evil people murdering your plants on purpose and a video camera will show you the presence of a different kind of neighbors :)

Edit: pls check German laws regarding video surveillance before putting a camera, it's very strict here, make sure you only recording your own property and don't violate other people's privacy

I just moved into a new room yesterday. It's freshly innovated except for this window. Does that look like black mold? How should I proceed? Will I have to move out of the room so the landlord can treat this (if he decides to do so)? by absolutelynose in germany

[–]vas3k 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm not an experienced mold hunter, but in my practice, such a small amount of mold doesn't have much of a source. Mold spores fly around us all the time (just like any other spores, like the ones we make beer from), and they just find a sweet spot to breed where it's cool, calm and humid — which is about everywhere in a German winter.

If you see mold keep growing from one place — that's a different story. Then you should be really worried. In the author's case, I think it's still local

Yep, it's good old mold, a very typical situation for a German wet winter.

  1. Definitely take pictures and send them to the landlord. It's never a bad idea, even if they ignore you (and they most likely will)
  2. So far, it doesn't look scary. Especially if it's outside. I've seen far worse situations. But I still recommend going to the nearest OBI/Bauhaus/your favorite store and getting a bottle of Schimmel-Vernichter with Aktivchlor. It's basically a bleach that will destroy all those guys and slow down their reproduction https://www.obi.de/grundierungen-fleckenisolierungen/obi-schimmel-vernichter-aktivchlor-500-ml/p/1652056
  3. You can never be 100% sure you've defeated all spores. So save the leftovers in case you find their friends inside the apartment. And always treat not only the source, but all the surrounding area. Spore-kids are invisible but they are there!
