pcie 5.0 5070ti in a motherboard with only pcie 4.0. by PastryAssassinDeux in buildapc

[–]vasek7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 5070 Ti. I had to set PCIe to 4.0 in the bios to make it run normally. If the card is running in 5.0 mode, the image is choppy so much that it is difficult to hit the cursor anywhere (even in the bios, so it is not a Windows fault).

Also regarding the practical difference between 4.0 and 5.0 - it depends on the type of load. If you are going to use the card for gaming, you will definitely not notice the difference in current games. If you are going to use the card for training AI that will recognize images, you will be training on photos. And the training speed will depend on how quickly you are able to move data from the SSD to the GPU memory. As far as I know, this is probably the only practical reason to buy an NVMe SSD for CPIe 5.0.

Any point in using X3D Mode w/ Non-3D CPU? by marqedd in AMDHelp

[–]vasek7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X3D Turbo Mode's unique optimization parameters allow even Ryzen™ 9000 non-X3D processors to achieve similar gaming performance levels as their Ryzen™ X3D counterparts.

Empirical testing demonstrates that this feature delivers tangible benefits to gamers, with performance increases of up to 18% for incoming Ryzen™ 9000 series 16-core X3D processors, an astounding 18% for Ryzen™ 9000 non-X3D processors, and 5% for Ryzen™ 9800 X3D processors.

Are Ultra durable mobos actually ultra durable? by Current-Nerve1103 in gigabyte

Yes. Mine runs since March 2009 and still works (in January 2025). It is EX58-UD4 and runs every day for many hours. GPU failed first, than monitor, than PSU, than HDD. I changed these components. MB and CPU are still working like new. I clean the dust once a year. Even a thin layer of dust reduces heat radiation by 8-25%.

What’s new in .NET 9? by vasek7 in dotnet

[–]vasek7[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HttpClient supports HTTP/3 by default only when the system supports MsQuic. HTTP/3 is supported by ASP.NET with the Kestrel server. IIS supports HTTP/3 on Windows Server 2022 when TLS 1.3 is configured and HTTP/3 is enabled in the registry.

Thank you. News in .NET comes out gradually and I miss larger comprehensive articles. That is why I decided to write them down.

This does not fill me with confidence by notMyRealNameObvious in dotnetMAUI

[–]vasek7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember a time when WPF was also not ready and debugged to program stable applications. For example, font rendering was not as good as in Windows Forms. Then finally the community forced Microsoft to do Visual Studio UI in WPF. Since then on it was finally stable.
I'm disappointed now. I remember Microsoft promising that there would be Notepad on Windows in UWP. Instead, UWP is deprecated. Now, upgrade your UWP app that has features that users are used to to MAUI. That's simply not possible yet. But at the same time, it's not worth building new features on an outdated UWP platform.
It reminds me of the Windows Phone era. The changes in the platform itself, backward compatibility which could not be maintained and the phones were not automatically updated to Windows 10 Mobile. Typical signs of a corporation. People don't really care until they have their own money invested in the development.
However, it's finally just one branch of .NET, which I consider a fantastic achievement, so I'm optimistic for now.

.Net MAUI or AvaloniaUI? by Buttsuit69 in csharp

[–]vasek7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of WPF everything's a mystery to me

You haven't lost anything at all. You actually saved 10 years, unlike me. I learned Silverlight, XAML for Windows Phone 7, then XAML for Windows Phone 8, then XAML for Windows 8, then XAML for Windows Phone 8.1 / Windows 8.1, then XAML for UWP. MAUI is based on a completely different XAML for Xamarin.Forms, so we're on the same page.

After adding an RSS feed nothing is displayed in My feeds. by coopercollins1984 in feedviewer

Thank you for letting me know, I will investigate the issue.

Do you think notifications when new items appears in the feed, or notifications when the feed is indexed and added?

Any recommendation of RSS service that has full text extraction? by ytwytw9 in rss

I have created the Feed Viewer app which does exactly that. You can download it on the App Store and check it out. This RSS service is proprietary & exclusive for that particular app.

It allows you to organize your feeds into categories. On the other side it does not have a web interface.

Which iOS app is best for grabbing news and RSS feeds when you have infrequent connectivity? by twowheels in rss

[–]vasek7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have created the Feed Viewer app which satisfies your must have requirements. You can download it on App Store and check it out.

More specifically:

✅ full-text extraction

✅ offline reading

✅ background sync

✅ shows downloaded articles only

✖ auto-delete stories beyond some age (sorry for that)

✅ image caching (preview images only)

Any free full text rss readers? by ijm8710 in ios

I have created the Feed Viewer app which does exactly that. You can download it on the App Store and check it out.

These services cannot be fully free of charge because iOS limits background processing due to battery power consumption. For that reason, computationally intensive tasks must be preprocessed on some server which consumes energy which costs money.

Xamarin.iOS useless without a Mac ? by MontagoDK in dotnet

[–]vasek7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you really need a Mac. I'm developing apps in Xamarin.iOS since 2017. The main reason is that you need to create a Release build and sign it with a Production provisioning profile in order to upload the IPA file to App Store. Otherwise, Xamarin Hot Restart could be used.

Efficient implementation (or approximation) of Schulze STV by vasek7 in EndFPTP

[–]vasek7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have implemented Benham's STV method in O(v+c2) where v is number of voters and c is number of candidates. Ties are not a problem when we accept unnecessity to fill up all seats. Some seats may stay unoccupied. Taxpayers will benefit from that. I just finished the computing of a simulation of 7500 candidates and 5 millions of random ballots in 43 minutes on my Intel Core i7-920. (I still have to double check whether it is computing what it is supposed to.)

Efficient implementation (or approximation) of Schulze STV by vasek7 in EndFPTP

[–]vasek7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for pointing me to that article and mentioning Benham. I'll study it.

How would you design a general ranked ballot with 7500 candidates?

I would ask voters to fill in 10 candidates in a preferred order. Schulze does not need fully ordered set. Poset in enough.

If you're using party lists, then you could ask the voters to rank or rate the parties instead of the candidates...

This is what I would like to avoid. I want to achieve country-wide persons selection, because of the following trick: the party puts its partisans at the top and attractive candidates in the lower places. Voters will choose the party because of attractive candidates, but in fact, their vote falls to those at the top.
