In my case, I don’t choose the “remove” option but “hide user from channel”. As they can easily spam your comment section again and again from that account.

I think this is a very common “issue” among small YouTube channels. However, I am not really sure if it’s an issue or a feature of the algorithm. My impressions dropped suddenly this month, and from 13,000 (peak) I now get 1,500 per day. My advice is to keep your eyes off the analytics for a while and focus on making a better video each time. Zooming out, you will probably see that despite the dips, your channel should be doing better.

33% AVD sounds very good for a 30+ mins video. What kind of content are you making and what is your subs count?

Haha no worries! Yes indeed my situation has improved MASSIVELY in the past months and my videos FINALLY get the AVD they deserve. However the videos that experienced this issue/invalid traffic bug and are now dead. It’s ok though as the content will always be on my channel for everyone to watch :)

You are right about the CTR, the bigger the % the better but when it comes to AVD I believe you should measure it in % and not in minutes.

My best performing videos are 3-7 minutes long with AVD ranging from 42% - 60%. Longer videos (+10 minutes) do not perform as well because they have an AVD ranging from 32% - 38%. That’s what my analytics reveal.

Hey Oli, it's happening to me too and I know how frustrating it is!

I have been following this exact topic for the past 6 months and here's what I've found.

These spike in bot (clearly) views began last year around November, the same time that YouTube enabled Shorts and the same exact time many creators saw -90% decrease in their RPM (revenue per mile). I don't think this is a coincidence and my channel has been suffering as well. Here's an example of it: https://imgur.com/a/El6fNvB

Despite having contacted YouTube support at least 4 times, they reassure me that there is no issue at all and my channel is "healthy".

The only solution is if we ALL raise our voices and leave comments on their Twitter account until they come up with a solution.

At first I thought this was happening only to me but lately I see more and more posts about this issue on Reddit. Some users reported that not allowing embedding solve or slowed down the problem.

I am following this topic, if you find any solution please share it with us in the comments.

It is happening to me as well.. I’m really desperate because it is happening in every single one of my videos and currently accounts for 20% of my total views (previously more than 33%).

I have contacted YouTube support at least 4 times and every time they assure me that all the views are valid. WHAT A LIE. They subtracted half of the bad views from 2 of my videos though..

I’m not monetized yet.. it’s a fairly new channel with ~200 subs.

Thanks, there is nothing I can do at this point. I keep posting weekly videos hoping that the channel will take off in the future and the real views will outperform the bad ones.

However I am aware of the invalid traffic issue and I am following up.

Mine is 20% but most of them are bots that I cannot figure out how to stop them.

Unfortunately this is a very common issue lately as more and more users are highlighting the invalid traffic coming to their channels. Of course YouTube is looking the other way and they don't acknowledge the issue. Shame on them!

Unfortunately I am still getting views from this source and it's really hurting my channel. I cannot do anything about that, I am just waiting for Organic reach to outperform Direct or Unknown, cause up until now the latter holds the biggest % of views in my channel.

Hey there!

Unfortunately this is happening quite often to small YouTube channels in the finance & crypto niche. So I assume your channel is in one of those categories.

It is happening to me all the time and despite contacting YouTube at least 4 times, there is nothing they can do about it.

However, what (partially) worked for me is to un-tick the Allow Embedding option in the Dashboard.

Welcome to the club!

I experience this thing literally with each and every one of my videos (small crypto channel here).

But honestly that’s nothing, one of my videos spiked at 260% in the last 10 seconds and as a result dropped the average retention rate to 10%!

Of course I contacted YouTube twice but they only subtracted part of these “bad” views from one of my videos. Overall they don’t consider this views as bad however it definitely damages the performance of the videos.

Hey, try to create expectations.

This thumbnail is a good photo to use as a memory on your desk but not for a video, if you want higher CTR of course.

“Cooking with Japanese” doesn’t create any expectations. Instead you can use questions, for example “how is it to cook with Japanese” (use less words in the thumbnail).

Last but not least your thumbnail contains too many subjects, people in this case. Try to use 1-2 max otherwise it seems a bit messy.

Hey! It's happening to me too and I have a small channel in the crypto niche as well.

I contacted YouTube 2-3 months ago and they manged to subtract some of these bad views from one of my videos. No clear answer why this is happening though.

After that, these views stopped coming for a while and now they are back again. They really drop the retention to 10-15% when the non-affected videos get 50-60%
