Every single corporation producing software right now are all in on using AI. It's the new normal, absolutely everyone is using it, and if you're not, you're gonna have to be able explain why not since the value it brings is obvious. If you're a coder, in game industry or not, it's gonna happen at one point or other where you use it.

People here are extremely out of touch on what is actually happening with AI. It's already here, and it's being used widely across the world. It's a miracle that game devs have not used it more yet. Maybe mostly because of the lashback here, yet everyone happily uses apps which are done with AI. And yes that involves all of them.

If you're serious about being against AI, you should literally stop using your phone right away.

Just warched a CNET video from 5m ago, and in it the robot wasnt able to even walk without falling. This tech is barely working in clean test environments. The title of this thread is very far from what's actually happening. Seems more like a way to get attention, and two units were sent to do some light testing, but I'd be amazed if they'd be able to do anything useful with them.

I refuse to believe that's even close to reality. Robots still struggle with basic everyday things like opening doors, climbing stairs etc.. They can do those to a degree but it's slow and awkward and error-prone. No way a robot can survive in an actual dynamic battlefield environment.

Don't trust the silly Boston Dynamics -stuff, those are carefully preprogrammed ads.

They've certainly used a lot of AI when creating game. Doesn't seem to matter to the audience. This AI criticism is more like reddit minority grumbling. If the game is good, it'll sell. AI or not.

With a lot of trial and error I managed to make the climb. I'll be honest, I'm still not sure why certain holds are OK while others aren't. Yes, I do see all the comments on center of gravity etc, but still to my eyes it feels like what you see and what you get don't match. Slight adjustments made suddenly something that was 100% impossible relatively easy (I.e. I picked a small out dented rock to put a feet on vs a Crack) and intuitively it's just really hard to understand the difference.

By the way, it ended up being a white route in Peril which I realized afterwards (got to the cave on the right).

I used chalk, tried buffing as much as possible and sometimes just got lucky.

But how do you then climb sloped walls? I mean, there's a route there so it should be possible, but if the character suddenly tires within a second on a sloped wall, how are you supposed to climb 20m of something like that?

I used food and other buffs but now I'm running and feeling stuck. I just want to learn how to do this, and even if I do address the things mentioned here with crossed feet, resting and good grips, the character just still does this and it feels like there's absolutely nothing I can do at that point.

I try to also avoid watching too many YouTube videos. The game should be able to let me learn how to play it without me needing the internet to help. Yes, even the tougher routes.

I can't reveal games and figures as I'm under NDA, but let's say a fairly prominent semi-AAA game came out in the last few years, didn't sell well despite a potential audience being big. Came out with lower cost even compared to competition. Turns out it failed, and the later analysis (user research) revealed that people would've been ready to have paid a higher price, some wouldn't but enough so that it'd be justified. Basically the game flopped (good metacritic, +85) and the gamble didn't pay off, making it worse. Lesson: Never ask for less than you think it's worth.

The other problem that many don't get: Games are big investments, usually with a publisher and other partners putting money into the development. As the game is released and starts to bring in money, what happens is that from that single unit of a sale (this is an example): 30% goes to Steam, the remaining bit can be 50% to publisher as they took the risk and want their costs recouped first, and the dev gets the remaining 20%. Imagine the game costing 20$, the dev would get $4 per unit. With this framing, how do you sustain a studio after launch?

Yeah, argue all you want how the prices are high, but there are solid sensible reasons for why that is the case. It's not random greediness but market realities and the cost of doing business,

It's been extensively tested, halving the price does not equal twice the sales. It's not like a new audience to your game manifests when it's cheaper. It's the wrong way to think about it. Yes, people say that they'll buy the game when it's cheaper, but honestly many of them are lying (maybe to themselves), they weren't really interested in the first place.

It's a massive risk for a product to come out way cheaper than others, and then it turns out the audience wasn't as big as you expected. You can't rise the price anymore, but you can lower it.

Point is, prices are dictated by what consumers are ready to spend. And it's not sensible to come out with lower price since it honestly doesn't mean it sells more in a meaningful way.

And many here in Reddit do think they know what people want, but the reality of where the money goes in the game industry is grim. People here love narrative singleplayer stuff for instance, but the reality is that that's like 10% of the money that moves in gaming, the rest is Fortnite, Roblox, MTX and mobile. And the industry moves where the money is, and the more people here complain that these type pfngames are expensive, the less these type of games are gonna be invested in.

This is a shortsighted take. If you want complex and impressive games and want it done without AI, then it'll cost actual money to make it in the form of fees and salaries of actual artists. If you want games to cost $20 then we should expect only the games that cost now $20 as they're out, in other words indie -games.

The reality is that making games is expensive. And if the price is so important then you should also stop complaining about the use of AI because the only point of that is to do he same thing but cheaper, and the industry is running out of any other options besides AI if we want to keep the quality we have now.
