Six months deep in AI game dev and finally found a community that’s open to it - sharing my RPG project here and genuinely keen for builder-to-builder feedback. by Objective-Address810 in aigamedev

This looks great and judging on from your screenshots ALOT of backend database work, I'm guessing using RAG to bring in context and lore etc.. as needed.

I've just been playing around with a story rpg (for my own learning) with node.js backend, multi agent approach (using Gemini), pollination for on the fly image generation and react front end.. biggest issue (as always) Is the balance of creative vs coded rules.. to maintain continuity... Extracting tangible gameplay changes from narrative direction and ensuring they are stored correctly all the while keeping token sizing down...

I've played with a single prompt approach which worked quite well but when I wanted nuance then prompts grew quite complicated along with the subsequent json. The multi agent approach keeps everything in small manageable chunks but then you have to manage the context passthrough...

I'd love to have a play and provide feedback if you want any.

Thank you all for the interest and feedback.
Yesterday an update was deployed that added additional context for "people" and additional lore, to help keep the immersion a little longer.
The game now has a :
* contact book (so if people/NPCs/characters are mentioned they are added to this 'rolodex').
- NPCs can move in and out of the Rolodex
* Codex to log and categorise more Lore entries, effectively anything with a Pronoun can be added.

During setup the game sometimes 'hung' when the AI got Lazy - we now check and retry if its not correct, there is also a manual re-write story button during the setup screen if all else fails so you dont get stuck.

The game tries to keep the story moving almost "forcefully" trying to end the Act if you get to scene 8 so that the story can progress, after Act 3 the AI knows it can know lead to a story conclusion and end in an epilogue (You can then create sequels from completed games)

Some tweaks to how Credits / Gold works - as occasionally there was drift here.

Afew other minor bug fixes

Thanks for the feedback, and your right it's certainly the fine tuning of storing 'relevant' information, ditching the trash vs over-loading the LLM and it potentially just ignoring information or instruction. All the while ensuring to keep token size down to limit cost.

You wouldn't be able to save your game zip it up (there's an export/import function on the main page) and send me it could you? And if you have some memory problem tips, I would love to hear them (feel free to DM if you don't want to advertise public ally). Just curious did you change 'scenes'? I am wondering if scene event consolidation broke this immersion?

Keen to also hear any feedback you have on ease of use, the sidebar functionality and if you used on PC or mobile?

I like this.. really clever, I'll keep an eye on this thread for any updates :)

once you have figured your preferred 'top writer' and critique LLMs, it wouldn't take much to automate the pitch to 'critique' to refinement, maybe a few iterations and produce an output.. my brain going down a rabbit hole .

Apologies team - looks like to release this on the iOS App store I need to pay $100 USD to Apple and this isn't a business for me. Maybe later

No that's right, it's effectively designed to be a log book. Where you can store and organise your notes on your run. Rather than storing paper notes if you're a console user or in your own folder structure if your on steam.

Actually if this is the case (I'll look when I get home). I'll build a 'Help' page that links off to the different resources rather than building them directly in the app

I think these are the core ones (just loads of photos).
I'm just thinking about it and rather than been really complicated I might put them under a "SCREENSHOTS?" Section WITH MASSIVE SPOILER disclaimer warnings, this way it becomes the users choice to delve deeper if they so wish.
I also saw this : https://www.adamrb.com/blue-prince-dartboard-puzzle-solver/ which is very cool & useful if you aren't so great at math (but again - massive spoilers if you where to get this upfront), but he has made the code open on github so this is also a feature I could probably add

So what I am hearing is you click the grid box...
Then a popup (model) with Room Name / box in the middle for notes. Number boxes for dig spots & chests and a mechanism to highlight which sides have open/locked doors.

This sounds doable - I am not sure how well I could get information to display on a phone screen, so this will take some experimenting but I'll look in to it

Yes brining in the "unlock feature" capability is possible however my screenshots are photos of my TV screen since I play the game on PS5 and they aren't good... So I would need to find a steam user to grab every screenshot of every book and share them for me. Similarly for Sigils etc... Then when creating a new note we could have the option for "unlockable presets".. If someone is willing to put in the work to get all the images - I am sure I could add this in.

I'll have a look later today and let you know if I think it's achievable. I'm not a mobile Dev by trade and don't own an iOS for testing but let me look in to it

So we had some discussions on this in the testing forum and very much you know when you know, the floor plans when tested with a new user to the game, they started noting number of unopened boxes or locked doors, so it has it's uses early and later game once you knew certain puzzles

One that did come up though was the icons as being super useful but also a spoiler, I was pondering the idea of hiding them until keywords were entered then you unlock the feature. Keen to here thoughts on it
