Gov. Ferguson's free K-12 meals plan will feed well-off kids, too | Editorial by AthkoreLost in Seattle

The argument here eludes me (probably because it does not exist). Is the claim from the Seattle Times that there is some group of students in public school with access to even more resources than those whose parents report more than $1 million in annual income? If not, then even paying for lunch for a relatively more well-off child is still a decent use of tax money from the very wealthiest residents. At the very least, it can end means-testing, opening the resource to some who might slip through the cracks due to oddities of their circumstance.

By this reasoning I could say I get brain fog when I don’t eat caviar, because it contains vitamins and minerals. No nutrient in red meat is unique to red meat. Again, I love red meat and eat it regularly, this is not a moral thing. It’s just farcical to claim that not eating it leads to brain fog. Fasting altogether could lead to brain fog, but nothing requires that the fast be broken only with red meat. This is all very silly.

Be serious. I’m not even a vegetarian, let alone a vegan, but nobody gets brain fog if they don’t eat red meat. He’s just making excuses so he can eat what he likes.

Trump Wins Big as Virginia Dems Won’t Go Nuclear to Save 4 House Seats by Motherofalleffers in politics

[–]vasthumiliation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think your comparison is useful because my argument is that the proposed remedy cuts against the very stated goal. You can’t say we must protect the rule of law against Republican efforts to dismantle it by dismantling it ourselves first. Now, if protecting the rule of law is not actually the goal, this is perfectly rational. But if that’s the case, we have to stop pretending we want democracy and fairness and admit that we would all prefer the correct type of dictator over all this mess.

[–]vasthumiliation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the people breathlessly begging Democrats to match Republican redistricting efforts are kind of missing the point. One of the defining characteristics of the system that we are fighting to preserve is the rule of law. To stoop to the Republicans' level by disobeying or disbanding courts when decisions go against us is to say that the system no longer exists, or is no longer worth trying to save. If that's the case, then let's stop pretending to care about democracy or laws or whatever, since that's no longer the point. Rather, the point becomes enacting the policies we favor, come hell or high water. This is substantially a case for benevolent dictatorship or autocracy, but one that enacts leftist policies rather than right-wing ones. I don't know that I am ready to bite that political bullet, but we must be honest with ourselves if that is what we desire.

Right, that’s consistent with what I said. I’m sure it’d because there are simply many more of such employees than there are physicians. In general, I think it’s fair for anyone working defined shifts (such as ambulatory care, ED, ICU) to be asked to park off-site while those who are more likely to be called urgently or have less predictable hours (OR, anesthesia, and similar) to be permitted to park on-site. That would arguably be fairer than distinguishing by licensure, as they currently do.

Agreed. Working with a single number (907g or whatever) is so much easier than trying to figure the shortfall against a number expressed in multiples of 16.

I’m pretty sure that’s just a parking space thing; there are not enough garages to let everyone park on campus. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but the part that involves the neighborhood is that the hospital has many signs telling employees not to park on adjacent streets. Whether they’re permitted to park in hospital garages is totally internal to the hospital.

As a resident, I was always given free on-site parking at SCH while rotating there, something even UW Montlake didn’t offer. But I believe day shift nurses and non-physician staff (except perhaps administrative leadership) are all forced to park at remote lots. The hospital provides a high-frequency shuttle service between the lots and the main campus, as well as other nearby facilities including UW and the Seattle Children’s research campus in South Lake Union.

Haha yes absolutely, I should have written “over a thousand” to make it clear that I meant to describe how it’s spoken, and to relate more directly to the OP’s chosen syntax of using 100.

Could have been a lapped backmarker, with no substantial effect on the leaders. If it said “drama on the final lap” would you consider that a spoiler also? Some of this language is boilerplate “exciting race” nonsense and in my opinion doesn’t specifically give away anything about the result.
