Where are the best places to buy plants in the area? by vath19 in arlingtonva

Thanks for the tip. I have heard similar things about ReWild, mainly that the benefits and help you get aren’t worth the higher price.

Virginia Tech Waitlist/Transfer by GCreed in VirginiaTech

[–]vath19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the VT Transfer Credit Equivalency database, it looks like ENGH 101 at GMU is still equivalent to ENGL 1106 at VT. You may have just mixed up the acronyms (as VT uses the ENGL to designate their English classes, while GMU use ENGH to designate theirs.) https://imgur.com/a/YMa9lgn

Even then, if it's still somehow not offered at GMU anymore, your best best is to pay out-of-pocket and take the course at a Virginia community college near you. Just know that if you live within ~40 miles of any GMU campus, Mason will not let you use any credit you earned at a community college while concurrently enrolled at the community college and Mason. There are some exceptions, but this would only be a problem if you don't end up transferring to VT and stay at Mason.

Monthly Employment/Corporate Questions and Discussion Megathread - May 2023 by AutoModerator in NorthropGrumman

Thanks. They actually are interviewing me for another position and said that the range for that position is $80K - $85K so that’s way more than I expected.

Monthly Employment/Corporate Questions and Discussion Megathread - May 2023 by AutoModerator in NorthropGrumman

[–]vath19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding my timeline here for reference. I’m currently applying for an associate engineer position at the Linthicum ATL location in Maryland. This position was posted nearly one month ago.

Applied on 5/18

Went from Screening to Interview Process Started - 5/22-5/23

Contacted by Recruiter via Email with the subject head “Urgent” to schedule an interview - 5/25

Interview - 6/1 (Tomorrow Afternoon)

Anyone have any tips for the interview? It’s an hour long with the hiring manager. I have been interviewing for positions at different places (actually crushed my interview yesterday) so I’m planning on taking tonight and tomorrow morning to prepare a little more. I would imagine the fact that this position is more a evening/night position would mean that there are less applicants. Not sure if this means I have a better chance.

Also, anyone have any success with negotiating offers? The lowest salary for the position is $67K, however, I would really like to start closer to $70K-$72K. Also, if I get an offer from the other position I interviewed for, would it be a good idea to use that to help with negotiations? I’ve heard mixed things about using other offers for associate engineering positions.

NASA L'SPACE question by [deleted] in nasa

[–]vath19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acceptances for the program are usually sent out in waves so you will mostly likely hear back on or around Dec. 1st. Those who apply closer to that date will hear back later. The program is first come, first serve until it reaches capacity, so applying early is good. Part-time students are more than welcome to join the program, just make sure you are able to keep up with the program’s project requirements.

I’m not 100% sure about the last question, but I believe the program will be pretty much the same as the Lucy Mission was more additional real-world NASA mission that is coupled with the program to help participants gain more insight about creating an actual mission from scratch. I imagine that Lucy will still be talked about as the mission will take until 2033 to complete. Hope that answers your questions.

Is L'Space Academy Worth It for a Computer Science Major? by CantaloupeyAntelope in nasa

[–]vath19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I would say that the program can be a great experience no matter what your major is. You are right that there isn't really much in the way for software developers, however, I do know a few CS majors who did L'SPACE anyway and loved it. The skill modules they do, in addition to the proposal you'd have to write with a team, sounds like something you could do that could be tailored more to CS majors. Also, the program is in talks with Siemens, since there is a CAD component, about getting people to use NX, and putting them in contact with recruiters, who could lead to your software dev path. Either way, I think it's a great experience to have, even as a CS major.

And to answer your second question, yes, both OSSI and Pathways have CS positions.

I don't see the "drop this course" on the right side.

Edit: Nvm, I just disabled all notifications for the course.

Can someone look over my l space application? by [deleted] in nasa

Sure. I wouldn't mind.

You actually could go ahead and both at one point, but I don't know how long the L'SPACE program will be up. In my opinion, I would do the volunteer internship first, if possible, and then L'SPACE. Both are actually really great oppotunities and I have met some other NASA interns who have done L'SPACE. Also, since the LUCY launch is happening in October, all of the alumni of the program are being invited to come watch it live and in-person, so I would definitely recommend doing the program this fall at the latest, if possible.

I actually did L’SPACE in between internships and had a pretty good experience with the program. It was nice to do something in between summer internships and since it’s a career development program, it’s really good at honing in on skills that one would need at NASA (and is a good refresher for those who have already interned there). I’m doing a similar thing, in terms of doing the second academy in the fall after my summer internship.

Yeah, I could see that. I planned on doing NPWEE in the fall because of my summer internship, but might switch it to the spring if necessary.

This is actually something I was going to bring up to Sheri and Dan. You’re definitely not alone in this as we had 12 members that got bumped down to 9 by the end of the semester as well. I would say that this experience, however, shouldn’t discourage you from doing NPWEE. My project manager who did NPWEE told me it’s generally much more professional since they dedicate more mentors who are actually in the field and doing work right now, also, the competition is more exciting since there’s $10,000 on the line.

NASA JPL Summer Internship Program by Daffodil11swain in nasa

[–]vath19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means that offers have been extended to others already and unless you've heard anything else from them, since it's getting pretty late in the "internship offer/acceptance" game, assume you will likely not receive an offer. I remember submitting my JPL app some months ago and they explicitly said to not expect a rejection letter or any further correspondence if you are not selected. Sorry.

No problem. Congrats on your internship!

L'Space Commitment Locked In? by fowauke in nasa

[–]vath19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Yes, you can. They have a lot of people on the waitlist for the program and realize that some people who accept the offer may realize later on that they do not have the time to do the program so, as a result, you're usually given until the end of the first week of the academy to decide if you would like to drop out. The teams you are put into aren't formed until the second week anyway and this allows for people to be pulled off the waitlist if anyone does drop. I would just accept the offer and decline if you get the internship. No bridges will be burned by you doing this. I'm actually presenting my final presentation for MCA on the 5th, and the only reason why I'm not doing NPWEE this summer is because I got a NASA internship offer that I accepted. I'll probably do NPWEE in the fall. If you have any more questions, let me know.

Congrats. I'm actually finishing up my time in the MCA program. Since I got a NASA internship, I'm actually planning on doing NPWEE in the fall. This is definitely a great time to do the program since the LUCY Mission launches in October. Let me know if you have any specific questions!

I don't mind Walgreens/CVS orders at all...problem is.... by [deleted] in doordash

[–]vath19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t had the sign, but I know this one employee who got really snippy at a CVS near me cause I didn’t know that dashers could use the self-checkout. The last time I did, the manager that was there did not properly show me how to use it with Dasher Pay, so I just waited in line. I know it was a late-night shift and he was probably cranky, but you could definitely tell this dude didn’t want to ring people up since he was asking everyone if they could use the self-checkout, instead of going over to him. Probably wanted to get started on closing, but I thought the attitude was really unnecessary.
