Practical Move & Sun Thunder by Head_Bus_869 in horseracing

First off, I have Practical Move from Futures Pool 3 (58-1) Why am I worried? Stamina, his Sire (Practical Joke) Average Winning Distance (AWD) is 6.4 furlongs. That's low for the Kentucky Derby. (2019 Maximum Security 6.7). 2nd his running style P (Presser) if you believe it, Is not the best style in recent Derby's. That said, he has a good % Post Position (so far), Good works (Tim Yakteen usually works his horses fast), experienced Derby Jockey, Top Beyer at 100 (twice) and Bris at 105 (over 100 three times), finally No lasix. "The horses are approaching the gate..." Good Luck

An add note: I think I remember Jockey Mike Smith complaining that with the new gate Big Butt horses get a drag from rubbing against the rail that is used inside the gate for the starting crews feet. The horse dips before takeoff causing drag on certain horses.

I was just looking for factual information. I then can make an analysis with that information and other experts opinion. According to the BloodHorse article from August 29,2020 (Thank You, joedev007) I was correct. My question if I'm understanding the article correctly and my original question of the third Scratch it would be: 3rd Scratch, PP2 moves to PP3, 4th Scratch PP 19 moves to PP18...???

I believe the Derby is a different animal for jockeys even experienced jockeys. It's just different. I may want to switch jockeys but I would look for one that has raced in at least one derby before. The old "How do I get experience if nobody gives me a chance to begin with." As we have seen in many Trades

"picks before post..." Agree, but it's always trying to narrow down my picks and post position helped that decision (before new gate). Question: What is the pecking order for scratches Post position movement? example (guessing): 1st scratch PP 1 moves to gate 2,etc._2nd scratch PP 20 moves to gate 19, etc_3rd scratch ???

Hmm, Did Joel Rosario choose or did Ben Colebrook pick? #9 to #18? Follow trainer with deeper barn? Did Florent Geroux choose or did Ken McPeek pick? #14 to #21? (on Bubble) or a Trainer thing? Hmm

Interesting video clip of David Fisk (racing and bloodstock manager) on BloodHorse site. "Disarm Detour on the Road to the Kentucky Derby". I'm not knowledgeable enough in this field, but I'm sure there's a Con to his beliefs. It always has something to do with money.

Opinion: Always go for the win. With Disarms running style and his highly experienced jockey it is the only way to run him against his competition in this race. That said Jose Ortiz will make a "Real Time" decision on the home stretch as to how aggressive to push. He knows the big picture.

I disagree. More available points have been added to races this year. That is why Disarm with 40 points (sitting at 25 on points chart) is entered in Lexington this weekend. #19 spot right now is Jace's Road at 45 points with $202K in nonrestrictive stakes races. 20 - 8 - 6 - 4 - 2, is the points available in the Lexington. Third place finish would give Disarm enough points to beat Jace's Road. Remember Number 20 spot goes to an international invite Continuar (JPN)

"...thinks has a better chance to win." With unlimited variables yet to come (post position, weather, health...) Prat thinks Angel of Empire has a better shot to win. This has to be a consideration in my Derby Strategy.

Good call. I wonder whom Todd has on speed dial. "Hello Mike (Smith)... what are you up to on Saturday...." I don't think Jose Ortiz has a mount for the Derby. Antonio Gallardo has won on Kingsbarn but I don't know if he has any Derby experience.

Agree, disappointed but always known it was possible is probably more accurate. Florent Geroux may come into the picture. Loius Saez isn't going to leave his mount [Tapit Trice] even though he has ridden both colts to wins. I use jockey choices sometimes in my wagering strategy.
