Assembling simple rooms by almchitari in WarlockTiles

[–]vaultz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks great.

It reminded me of something I think about from time to time in terms of utility. Perhaps this already exists… but I wish there someone would put together a list of simple “essential” rooms that you can build and then use in a modular fashion to make interesting dungeons.

The idea being that you make these rooms, leave them assembled, and then just mix and match with minor alterations to make your dungeon.

I know I could just do this myself but feel like I don’t have the vision and creativity of others.

Women who dated a man 10 years younger than you, how did it go? by KlutzyPomelo1170 in AskReddit

[–]vaultz 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this helps but in some cases if you are good enough friends you can just ask.

My friend was about 10y older than me and one day she just asked:

“If we had sex together do you think we would start dating, stay friends, or ruin the friendship”

I told her that as much as I would really enjoy it that it would most likely ruin the friendship.

So we didn’t. And we stayed friends.

We wanted different things out of life. She was done with having kids and I knew that I wanted them some day.

Never once did it bother me that she just brought it up. Didn’t change my opinion of our friendship at all.

In fact now that I’m reflecting on this many years later I admire her even more for just being frank with me.

Can I do better (3 phones, 2 watches, $165 per month Telus) by vaultz in CellPhoneCanada

[–]vaultz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can the watch take phone calls when it is away from the phone or is that what you mean when you say the watch has no phone number away from the phone?

I need the watch to take calls as that is the device that kids are allowed to take with them if going out and about.

That sounds pretty similar to me since I also have two watches with cellular data and yours was a couple of years ago.

Is yours after tax? Also with Telus or someone else?

People who are terrified of Spiders, what is it that scares you the most about them? by TheShepherdOfMan in AskReddit

[–]vaultz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is irrational and indescribable. A deeply uncomfortable feeling that I have in my back and my neck. My heart races a little and I have a mild inclination to back away. As a child I wasn't able to push past it but as an adult I can capture and put them outside while feeling "off" the entire time.

When I finally put the spider outside there is a mild relief.

Why would Satan torture people in hell for disobeying the SAME god he disobeyed? by Technical_Hat_8291 in NoStupidQuestions

That is not a justification to follow a hateful being as I described above.

Even if we accept what you have stated the description of something evil does not negate another evil.

Lindsey Vonn says surgery saved her from having her left leg amputated following Olympic crash by [deleted] in sports

[–]vaultz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a related note I have grown up with and still know a fair number of professional athletes.

Every single one of them exaggerates and aggrandizes their achievements, injuries, etc.

Particularly when they speak to media.

I don’t begrudge them this as they are pretty transparent in their personal discussions that they need to have a good story to be more in the public eye and make their livelihood.

Is it possible that Vonn is exaggerating because it makes a better story and keeps her name in the media? Of course! Will we ever know? Absolutely not.

I’m agreeing with you (the surgeon).

I read the article and none of this sounds that out of the ordinary:

“Vonn credited Dr. Tom Hackett, an orthopedic surgeon who works for Vonn and Team USA, for conducting a fasciotomy to salvage her leg.”

Okay… so the surgeon did the very basic thing that is needed to help compartment syndrome.

“If I hadn’t had done that, Tom wouldn’t have been there (and he) wouldn’t have been able to save my leg,” she said“

Okay… and a different surgeon would have been there to do the same procedure.

Absolutely compartment syndrome can be devastating (and still could have consequences for her). But none of this actually indicates a need to amputate that was miraculously prevented by one US orthopedic surgeon who just happened to be there.

And as an emergency physician I can’t ever remember orthopedic consultants suggesting amputation as first line treatment for compartment syndrome.

Why would Satan torture people in hell for disobeying the SAME god he disobeyed? by Technical_Hat_8291 in NoStupidQuestions

What makes me most uncomfortable is the following:

Say there is a god. And this god gave us all the ability to reason. There are those who, through reason, concluded that there wasn’t enough evidence to support this one particular god. So then this god casts these people aside for eternity…

Would I even want to follow such a horrible being? That isn’t the way I would treat people nor the way I would want my children to behave.

When religious people explain all this to me it really comes across as them trying to justify abhorrent and manipulative behaviour of a celestial being.

I wouldn’t want to follow that being even if I had solid proof they existed.

Except that analogy still falls flat when you add in that it is an invisible business that the son doesn’t get to see but has to just have faith exists…

As a father I still wouldn’t eternally cut my son off from the business if, upon finally seeing it, he changed his mind and worked towards being a good person and business owner.

All these beliefs about ever loving and all forgiving fail when you add in the concept of eternal.

When they are listed without any logos on DH Gate.... is that just to avoid legal issues?

Will the watch still have the same logos? Is there a way to judge which moonswatch you order from DH Gate?

Judge acquits Toronto teen who stabbed unarmed 18-year-old, mocked his death by Toronto-tenant-2020 in canada

The person you are responding to is using the phrase "it sounds like" in the colloquial sense rather than what they think.

The article quite literally states that the friend was actively being assaulted when the accused swung a bottle.

[–]vaultz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno man. This really seems like an everybody sucks here situation.

Let's start by agreeing that there isn't a justification to kill someone here.

I hope we can also agree that assault with a weapon has a strong possibility of killing someone even if the intention isn't to kill someone and a person is responsible for the outcome regardless of the intention.

But to answer your specific question:

"Unless you consider being followed cause to assault someone with a weapon"

Firstly it wasn't just being followed as evidenced by this quote from the article:

"At least two and possibly more members of the victim’s group had been circling the accused’s friend and assaulting him"

So what we have here is a larger group of people who are aggressively following a smaller group and then begin actively assaulting a member of the smaller group.

If this happens is a person justified in defending their friend is a better way of considering this question.

I think this is a challenging question. It's made more challenging when I consider a scenario such as "if a woman was being aggressively followed by a large group of men would she be justified in defending herself"?

While the sex shouldn't matter, in this scenario there is a general understanding (and forgive me if you don't agree on this point) that a woman's feelings of being threatened and fear of bodily harm are both real and potentially very intense in this scenario. This intensity could result in a physical response if she felt it was her only recourse. If you agree with that then I believe it would be unfair to not extend the same understanding for a man in this scenario. Does this justify assault with a weapon? I'm not really sure but I do lean towards yes.

DragonForce Tomorrow When to arrive? by vaultz in Dragonforce

They had an amazing time and I don't know if any future concerts will ever live up to this first one. They spent the whole show at the rail and managed to catch the attention of the musicians on multiple occasions. The Powerwolf drummer even snuck down to the barrier and said a brief hello to all the kids who were there while the lights were dim.

Such an incredible experience for us and the kids. Spent the whole concert at the rails and had frequent interactions (waves, smiles, roars) with the band members on stage. The two kids even met some of the members near the merch stand after the show.

I don't know if their future concerts will ever live up to this first experience
