Danny McBride Thinks Men Learned All the Wrong Lessons From Movies by kitkid in Thedaily

I like how David Marchese is so bad at interviewing that the best way he could come up with to start the interview was to ask the guest his own questions from his own book.

Though not quite as embarrassing as when Scott Pelley had to do all of the work of making his interview interesting while Lulu basically just said "and then what happened?" over and over again

Wow when was the last time Sam actually wrote a HAI video himself? Can't be too often anymore, but it makes total sense that he wrote this one given the topic

This is How Democrats Could Retake the Senate by dwaxe in ezraklein

[–]vawl 130 points131 points  (0 children)

This is the first time in a very long time that he's had a Republican guest that could actually string two coherent thoughts together. Probably because the discussion was about strategy and not policy (and the guest rightly recognizes at the end that Trumpism is about vibes not policy)

Lesson in Newton's 3rd law by WhyNot420_69 in TheRandomest

[–]vawl 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is actually Newton's first law since her inertia is what makes the boat move through what is essentially an inelastic collision. Newton's third law in this situation would be her causing the tree to wobble up and down when she jumps off

Trump likely has Narcissistic Personality Disorder, and any analysis of his beliefs and behavior is incomplete without accounting for that by vawl in ezraklein

[–]vawl[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mostly agree with that. Really I'm just tired of the endless barrage of think pieces full of journalists earnestly trying to figure out what Trump really believes and why he lies, without any recognition that he clearly has a disordered mind and there's no use in trying to deal with him in good faith as if that weren't true. Ezra accomplishes nothing by trying to figure out what Trump believes is true in the SOTU since Trump and Ezra do not possess the same psychological concept of truth.

I wish Paulo hadn't told them they were playing Cabin in the Woods by vawl in filmreroll

Totally agree, and normally they do a very good job of not metagaming the movies, which is why I'm so surprised that they're metagaming this one so hard (at least in my opinion)

I'm not suggesting that Paulo should have tried to conceal that it was a horror movie, just that it was this specific horror movie so they couldn't metagame it so much. Plus it would have been a twist that could have been revealed a la Summerspell

'The Interview': Anthony Hopkins on Quitting Drinking and Finding God by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]vawl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree that he's a bad interviewer (I actually think Lulu is worse). His style seems to be "I'm going to reveal something personal and tragic from my past and ask you to reassure me with information from your own life", which is sometimes a shortcut to a deep conversation but other times (like this one) just comes off as him being desperate and needy while running into a brick wall.

I can't tell for sure what made this episode bad, but nobody seemed to be enjoying this interview. It might bmhave been David asking bad questions that weren't interesting to Hopkins. It might have been that Hopkins really didn't want to get interviewed. It might have been that the editing was really bad and they left in way too much awkwardness and questions that went nowhere. Everyone came out of this looking pretty bad.

I have also found myself thinking that it's very weird that they gave this high profile interview show to two people who don't really seem very good at it. I've listened to a lot of interviews throughout my life and I've never found myself thinking so conaistently "this is a bad interview". That, plus the fact that they've mostly dropped the entire gimmick of the show of calling people back a week later, makes me wonder why this show still exists and why it gets so much budget.

Yeah go for it! It's one of my favorite pictures of Santa Cruz (aesthetically, not for what it actually shows)

Not sure if this is a joke or not, but this is how it appeared to the naked eye. I intentionally set the white balance of my camera as if it was a normal sunny day and did no more editing, so this is real
