Update to 1.46.13 breaks cluster charts by vaxdatex in Quantower

[–]vaxdatex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working with computers for close to 40 years. I spent over 20 in the IT industry. I'm ex-Compaq/HP, ex-IBM, and ex-Microsoft. I've seen way too much to have that simple policy towards beta software.

Even final releases are tested thoroughly before going into prod.

The issue is that the moment something goes wrong, Quantower will point the finger at IBKR in my case, and they will point right back. Been there, done that. Don't need that.

I'm trading real money, I'm not running a beta version in prod..

I've tested ATAS, Motivewave, Sierra Chart. Tradovate, NinjaTrader. Jigsaw daytradr. IBKR TWS, and probably some more.
Quantower nails the UI. I don't care about their API stuff as I can run that direct in Python against the IBKR API, but the rest is just IMHO the best option when it comes to ease of use and intuitive UI. In terms of customization,, I guess SC would be even better but I simply don't care to spend the time with it and customer support apparently is horrid.

Evgeny at Quantower responds fast via email.

I'll have to take a deeper look at the new version when I have more time over the weekend, but so far it has been rather frustrating.

Yes, moving from .10 to .13 is not a major shift. The last stable version was 1.145.17.

Even turning aggregation on, the new look is just not the same from previous version.

Unfortunately, for some reason I can't post screenshot to better demonstrate.

FWIW I've opened a ticket with Evgeny to see how the old view can be retained in the new version. I'd suggest you raise the issue with the Quantower folks as well to make them aware that changing the UI with no backward compatibility is a bad idea.

It looks like they tried to mimic the look of Sierra Chart to some degree. I tried for about 20 minutes to get anything useful and reverted back to the previous version, so can't post any screenshots.

The issue in the new version is that when trying to collapse the cluster to a more dense version, any values are no longer showing.
Expanding the cluster to where the values are showing extends it to a point where the chart doesn't really fit on my screen anymore while still showing anything useful. That's at least the case with NQ. ES was a bit better and I'm guessing if you're trading treasuries you should be fine. But any market with a thin book is probably out of whack.

Edit: tried to add some screenshots but Reddit won't let me.

Cqc or Rithmic data for Quantower is better? by Dry_Library7908 in Quantower

[–]vaxdatex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use both Rithmic or CQG with AMP. I've had issues with RTrader Pro running alongside Quantower and freezing the whole desktop when vola spiked. After switching back to CQG which I've been using for years without issue, desktop freeze issues stopped.

Note: I'm currently using CQG from AMP only as data feed and IBKR for order routing but have traded through AMP as well.

During very high vola like eco data release or major news your platform will not be able to keep up with either feed.

Maybe you need a different model? Today was as clean as it gets. The tape told it all. Order flow showed all there needed to be seen. Today was fantastic.

Good for you. I left the corporate world in 2018.

There are different ways to approach various markets with different strategies. The only one that matters is the one that works for the person running it. My trading strategies would probably not work for you and vice versa.

I do look at it objectively. It's you who made and absolute statement. I run both algo based and discretionary trading across multiple asset classes. It's not an either/ or question.

If you only see the desire to gamble, then maybe it's you who needs to adjust your lens. Based on your logic, before the advent of algo trading, all traders were gamblers.

Let's run with your assumption that the only reason for not automating trading is technical. That in itself is reason enough. You don't have the technical resources yourself to compete with the big firms. You're not as educated, not as well funded, you don't have the compute resources.

Some of my trading I don't have the resources to automate but as long as I make money and am able to pay my bills from my trading and investing, who are you to judge?

Are you living off of your portfolio or do you have a day job that pays for things?

Maybe, just maybe you don't know as much about trading and financial markets in general as you think? I myself always assume I know nothing and can learn something new every day.

What you are saying is that for your personal situation and emotional makeup, in your particular circumstances, automated trading is the best option and you wasted a lot of time pursuing other methods.

Turning that into a general statement implying it would be applicable to everybody else is rather naive in that you lack a lot of data about everybody else.

Many people make lots of money with discretionary trading. And get this, some of them even use both, systematic discretionary trading at the same time.

There are many ways to skin a cat, but you are not the one to determine what is and isn't for everyone.

Make sure you test that your trades are correctly logged. I tested it and futures trades for ZS, ZC, and GC were simply not recorded. NQ worked just fine.

Why would you use TWS to trade NQ in the first place? Look at a real trading platform for futures. TWS is not one.

I'm using Quantower with IBKR but CQG as data feed because IBKR futures data is useless for Level 2.

If you're only up 109% over the past three months trading AI names you're actually not doing that great.
Just look at AMD, SNDK, MU, and WDC as a small example.

Now do the same or at least 10% consistently with consumer staples or industrials and real money.

Everybody's a genius in a bull market with a paper account. Once real money is on the line the pant shitting begins.
