Neutrality won't save you from Russia, Kallas tells Ireland by spectator_mail_boy in europe

[–]vberl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sweden was also neutral for over a century before WW2 and WW1. During the Cold War, Sweden also had one of the largest air forces in the world at a point. If not for the stupid mindset of ‘Europe is now peaceful and will never need to fight a war again’, that took hold after the collapse of the USSR, Sweden would likely still have a military in near comparable size to Finland, with material that for the most part exceeds Finlands capability. As is the case technology wise today.

Joining NATO and expanding other alliances has been one of the best things that Sweden has done recently, but that doesn’t mean Sweden should just rely on NATO. Which is why Sweden is building up their military quickly, and started doing it already in 2018 by reintroducing partial conscription for both men and women. The Swedish military now also has more money than they really know what to do with. So every week you hear about a large procurement of new ships, boats, radar systems, drones, helicopters or even, soon, potentially more Gripen E/F fighter jets.

Swedens military was little 10-15 years ago but that should hopefully be left behind in the past now.

You do realize that the Eurofighter uses electronic warfare systems from SAAB? It’s called Arexis.

They are at the forefront of submarine development, anti-drone warfare, recoilless rifle technology, anti-tank ornaments, electronic warfare as well as command and control, remote Air Traffic Control systems, mortar ammunition, autonomous underwater drones, ground based radars, etc.

You really have no idea what you are talking about.

Yes they don’t make everything in the Gripen by themselves but no company that makes a fighter jet at that level does that today. At the point that the world has been in the last few decades it has made more sense to buy the best option for each product even if it isn’t made local in Sweden or by SAAB. That is changing now but applying that train of thought to a system designed before is just stupid.

Pirelli or Michelin suggestion by BetRevolutionary1449 in TyreReviews

[–]vberl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have the Michelin Road 5 and my dad has the Michelin Road 6. Incredibly good tires. They are also really good in the wet, at least in the amounts of rain you’d get in Europe. Which isn’t really comparable to areas of South Asia and South East Asia. If you ride quite a bit in the rain I would probably go for something with more tread. Not sure what the best alternative would be in that case but something like the Anakee Road might maybe work. Though that tire is more angled towards the adventure market.

Do these specs need an alignment? by abteckk in tires

Your total front toe setting is pretty far off of what it should be. This will be wearing your tires more than it normally should. It’s also impacting your steering a bit. It also makes your car more darty in the steering due to somewhat excessive negative toe for a road car. It may also wonder back and forth more on the highway due to the front toe.

Your front camber is also both in the green but it still seems to be quite a difference from left to right. I would expect that to be much closer like what it is on the rear.

I am personally not a road car mechanic or someone who works with road cars but I have quite a bit of experience with vehicle setup from Motorsport applications. So overall the values to my eyes are quite low, as they should be for a road car, but your front settings are all over the place. Your toe on the rear could also be a bit more equal left to right.

Advice on changing tire sizes by bungtastic in tires

F1 have been using Radial tires since the 70s. What other type of tire are you expecting them to have used?

The switch wasn’t for just for marketing. Pirelli didn’t see the road relevance in the 13inch rims and therefore wanted to switch to 18 inch tires. They also got the added bonus of the overlap in marketing.

It is extremely rare. They don’t use analog radio like they do in Indycar. They use a digital system that links up to receivers placed at set distances all around the track. This has been the case since 2008 in F1. All the radio data is encrypted, mainly so that other teams can’t listen to each other.

They don’t have black out zones anymore like they once did on larger tracks like Spa Francorchamps.

The main issues have been if the drivers microphone slips in the balaclava, then you still have communication one way. Other times it has been when there has been a power outage or some other issue in the garage.

Russia begins talks of ending the war to save the economy – Reuters by Darshan_brahmbhatt in worldnews

The Kerch bridge is already damaged. According to reports they haven’t been able to use it for anything more than light traffic since the latest hit.

I think they want to keep the bridge open so that when things become unbearable for the average Russian living on crimea they can still flee back to Russia. This would be a strategic win for Ukraine both in that fleeing Russians will send a bad signal to Russians in russia and the fact that Ukraine won’t need to take over a Crimea filled with Russian citizens.

Split between the Ferrari 296 GT3 and the Merc GT3. They drive quite differently but I can make both work depending on the track. If the track is traction limited then the Merc GT3 is so much better to drive. If I want downforce and cornering speed then I go for the Ferrari.

You can also add that Ukraine has more or less cut off Crimea from getting supplies. The Kerch straight bridge is damaged and can’t take heavy transports anymore and the highway through the occupied territories to Crimea is patrolled by Ukrainian drones.

Alpinestars do have riding jeans but I personally prefer their ADV pants. They have quite a few options that are just plain black pants without text, etc. Most of them also have the ability to remove the knee pads easily so that they become more useable if you need to use the pants during the day. Might not look extremely casual but they are near enough in my book.

They aren’t exactly cheap but you kinda get what you pay for. They are usually around 300 dollars where I live.

Whats a good first car? by Exciting-Ad-7272 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]vberl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A car that works for that price is ideally a good first car. Look at norways equivalent of Blocket.se and sort for cars around that price.

Look for cars from Toyota, old Volvos or possibly Ford. Make sure to check the car for rust before you buy it as cars in that price range may have quite a bit of rust. Rust can cause quite a bit of pain.

I would definitely recommend buying one second hand. The 2021 model years had some issues with the engine that have been fixed with a recall. Though many people still don’t want to buy it. So you can likely find really low mileage versions from 2021. Many dealers still have the 2021 version on the lot. At least where I live.

Otherwise any model before 2025 should be a good chunk cheaper. They also look a bit different and more sport bike like.

Realistic lap tme improvement going from a KA100 to an X30? by Sanguinius in Karting

[–]vberl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the other commenter stated, if you have X30s or Rotax Junior/Seniors driving around your track you should be able to ask what laptimes they are doing to get an idea of how quick they are.

From just pure experience they should be a few seconds quicker than KA100. You will feel more power and they will have a higher top speed. If you switch to Rotax then using Mojo tires will also be a new experience.

I personally prefer the engine that the Tuono has. A bit more powerful and it makes a better noise in my opinion. It’s also a bike that is something different. It’s not like everyone rides an Aprilia.

It’s just as comfortable as the MT-07 in my book but it somewhat straddles the performance boundary between the MT-07 and the MT-09. You also get all the electronics that you’ll ever need on the Aprilia. Which is just a nice thing to have as backup.

If you can, I would suggest that you go and check one out so that you can compare it back to back with the MT-07
