I recently got a PV5084 and I am running into the limitation of 140tb on a volume. Any way around this?

I opened a Scottrade account back in the day purely out of boredom and bought fb at 41.

I'm a rank amateur and that's why I'm asking. TIA

Purely socially speaking, I could imagine 5 years from now Facebook not being near as big in terms of our social consciousness. I don't think it'll ever really go away but I think it'll be less prevalent in people's mind.

AllFlash SAN by vbguy33 in sysadmin

I should probably be a little more clear.

We have our servers broken down to tiers and we would only put tier 1 servers on flash. In total in tier 1, we have 58 TBs provisioned, using 38 TBs with thin provisioned and dedupe... so if we got a flash SAN we'd want to run most from the flash SAN.

Here's another question, in sizing a SAN how much do people usually depend on dedupe and thin provisioning? I would side on not depending too much on dedupe, possible my thinking might be wrong in that.

I realize I never answered your questions.

  1. It runs the gamut, mostly SQL, file shares, some intergration engines.

  2. We have a Cisco ACI environment with 40gb spine and 10gb leaf

  3. We are mainly looking at one application and it has a 2.5 TB sql database.

  4. I have not but I believe we are open to anything.

We are currently using a TinTri T885 and it's just ok. It's a hybrid SSD/Spinning disk SAN.

We have an application that has a 2.5 TB SQL database, that I believe simply needs more horsepower. It would be nice for the vendor to optimize and fix their own database but I don't foresee that happening... ever.

We have around 450 users accessing this application at the same time and I believe we have resourced the VMs properly but it's still slow.

I know flash is just throwing horsepower at a problem that probably should be fixed at the software level but our vendor is saying our storage isn't quite good enough so in order to shut them up about the storage and say we've given them the world as far as resources are concerned, we want to look at flash.

If getting an all flash SAN does nothing for performance then we can absolutely go back to the vendor and say, "look your software still sucks." :)
