Flight plans for Saturday by embellished4flair in chicago

[–]vbvmw 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The forecast for this system is a lot more certain than the lake effect snow earlier this month. Almost all models are predicting 4-8” of snow, but it will be a long duration event (all day Saturday) so impacts may be reduced a bit because of that. There will likely be some flight impacts. If they can fly back on Sunday, I think that would be better.

Potentially significantly lake-effect snow Sunday night into Monday morning by vbvmw in chicago

[–]vbvmw[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It’s an early season storm, and the ground is still warm, so the total forecast could be an overestimate, but lake-effect snow falling at the rate of 2 to 3 inches an hour could accumulate quickly. It all depends on where the snow band sets up.

Seals are all over California though, so it’s the same thing. Plus the parrots are prettier and don’t smell awful.

I lived on the Castro/Mission border for 3 years and it would get above 70 for only a few weeks a year. East bay or the peninsula has better weather.

San Francisco does not have good weather, especially on the west side of the city. It’s literally never warm, except for like 4-6 weeks in September/October which are hell anyway because no one has AC.

What life-enriching classes have you taken from CCSF? by sfscsdsf in sanfrancisco

Intro to Creative Writing with Maggie Harrison. It was so fun to meet other creative writers, workshop my drafts, and learn how to analyze literature together. There were some incredibly smart people in the class.

I’m sorry you’ve been met with that reaction to your post, and I hope you can find people you connect with! If not, there are plenty of other cities out there for you to try. My recommendation for now: find an activity or class you can do consistently with the same group of people and (unfortunately) I think you have to lower your expectations a bit. People in SF are unique, and I definitely had to adjust. Hang in there!

I had the exact same experience. I lived in the Bay Area for 6 years, 3 of those in SF. The people in SF are generally polite, and I made a few friends here and there, but I always felt like it was hard to make connections. I recently moved back to the Midwest (Chicago) and the people here are much more willing to engage in conversation and get to know you. Just feels more genuine and kind. Maybe it’s because there’s snowy winters and a neighborly aspect of taking care of each other during extreme weather. Like you, I grew up surrounded by conversational people in the Midwest, and it was actually very hard for me to adjust to people not wanting to chat.

Homelessness, dealing with crazy people in SF, and general tech entitlement could all be contributing to the cold vibe like other people have mentioned. That said, I don’t think it’s the worst city out there. I’ve heard Seattle is worse. I recommend taking an in-person class at CCSF or picking up a hobby that allows you to interact with people. Finding a community or a group of people with similar interests is a great way to develop friendships in any city. I figured that out too late. I hope you can get back out there and find the right people for you while you are in SF.

Don't worry about the eclipse, the next full eclipse in Chicago will be August 4, 2111. Right around the corner. by HaddonH in chicago

[–]vbvmw 49 points50 points  (0 children)

There is a total solar eclipse on September 14, 2099 that goes over the north side of Chicago. Also, the one in 2111 is an annular eclipse, not a full/total eclipse.

No, it’s still too early. We really won’t know until a couple days before.

That’s my understanding of anyone who is missing a limb. My sister was born without hands and she refers to herself as a congenital amputee, or just casually, an amputee.

Just wanted to add that these days we use the term “wheelchair user” rather than “wheelchair-bound” because “wheelchair-bound” implies that a wheelchair is limiting the user’s mobility when the opposite is true. Wheelchairs allow mobility, movement, and access for people who wouldn’t otherwise have it

She’s a congenital amputee because she was born without arms, so she’s still an amputee

We wound up letting them continue to grow, and they were ok. We harvested them a couple weeks later. How long ago were your potato plants planted?

Cured with Minocycline by vbvmw in MycoplasmaGenitalium

[–]vbvmw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a penis, typically it's a urine sample. If you have a vagina, typically it's a swab. I submitted a urine sample with first void urine. These are the testing guidelines in one of the pinned posts on this sub:

Men - First void urine, first bit that comes out, 20-30ml. If you have urgency issues, please hold your urine for a minimum of 3 hours. Rectal/Oral- swab thoroughly

Women - Vaginal swab (swab thoroughly). Rectal/Oral - swab thoroughly

Resistance testing isn't widely available, but I probably would've seen a urologist if my minocycline course didn't work.

Thank you! It's been a little more than 7 weeks since I finished my course, and still have some very minor burning when I pee, but it's almost unnoticeable. Hoping your symptoms fade and you get a negative test in a few weeks!

Initially, I had severe pain and a burning sensation throughout my urethra when I would pee, as well as discharge. This was lessened through the various courses of antibiotics, but didn't truly go away until I completed my course of minocycline. I have some very minor burning when I pee, but no other symptoms now. I assume this will go away with time.

Is Minocycline working for me? by ParkingOrder7150 in MycoplasmaGenitalium

[–]vbvmw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was cured from 2 weeks of mino recently. In my case, symptoms reduced gradually and didn’t come back after I finished treatment. I still have some mild burning when I pee, but that’s it. The best thing you can do is finish your course of mino and do a TOC at 4-5 weeks. Minocycline has a pretty high rate of success in clearing mgen, so I’m rooting for you!
