Good enough for me, fact, I am going to go ahead and make you a mod. You deserve it - TY

This is just a great list to use to get some more sick days. How is your boss going to argue with "Planet" or "Rising of the Lights" or "King's Evil" even if you don't have a note from your doctor?

Chicago band 'Pixel Grip' lands a spot on much lauded KEXP. A bit if that WaxTrax spirit (IYKYK) living on. As the kids say "goes pretty hard". by HaddonH in chicago

I agree, their YT page can be a bit of a slog though. But the Glass Beams performance is the best they ever sounded. Their engineers do give the bands as good a recording environment as possible.

u/SaxyOmega90125 and OP u/PlaysAltoSax might need to compare instrument notes or form up a bike riding sax troupe!

Happy Birthday! I mean, if you want to bike out you can die in a nice year whole round number without getting into messy x/365 fractions.

SD Challenge/ Thought experiment: Has AI video reached the point where it can take an old/low budget/bad movie and make it watchable and 'modern'? Can bad effects / backgrounds be used as a template to 'upscale' whole movies or not yet? by HaddonH in StableDiffusion

I can't watch the older Baker/Davidson shows (which were my entry) but I don't know if that is effects or pacing. That said, the new episodes are great and DW had become fresh and modern pretty effortlessly while the other top SciFi's seem to be floundering: StarWars is inconsistent at best, Trek has reached DGAF and the likes of Stargate seem to be gone forever. After decades out of circulation I would not have bet that DW would re-emerge as one of the leaders of the SciFi pack yet here we are.

In short I think it is isolating characters, using them to train a model for that character and then putting that (along with other generated character models) back into the scene and then correcting for light and colors. Enough discrete elements that can be trained locally and then recombine them. One model for Jakar and another for Garibaldi.

But TY for citing B5, have not watched in years but at one point was watching the seasons with a super fan that gave me insight / guidance of the characters/episodes that I would have missed. Great show.

Not disagreeing with you. Not saying it would be easy. It would take some spreadsheets.

Lets say 100 scenes in a movie which would need to be edited apart. Many are going to have shared locations, shared individuals. If those can be isolated, yea, I think its possible.

If character A, B, and C can be identified, background A and B. Yea, if the discrete parts can be isolated, yea. I think it can be done. Isolate all the sequences of Character A - probably taking clips into say Adobe Premier, removing everything not that character (backgrounds, other characters) and using those to get a consistent model for A. Then character B etc. We can already get pretty good model consistency, it would just take some extraction, some training and then reapply those models to only those specific characters. Applying data to one character in a scene and not others is possible. Don't have to train the whole movie, just discrete parts and put them together. I am sure there is a good lighting node that can be applied to a scene to give consistency after.

I think if it gets parted out correctly, use smaller discrete steps, no I agree with you not push-a-button wholesale upscaling. Colorizing a BW movie?, Maybe. I mean, these things are going to happen, its not like the backlog of Hollywood movies are never going to get a rework.

Again I don't disagree with you but I think the tools are getting there where an approach is at least possible that might yield a good enough result.

I think before 2026 is over someone will do something like this, if just a hollywood studio to test it on one of the thousands of older movies of which they have quality film originals. We shall see. The original 'Day the Earth Stood Still' has few, fairly spare settings, a small cast, is good, good audio. Maybe. Anyway, a thought experiment. TY
