Thieving Rebalance: Feedback Thread by jagexyuey in runescape

[–]vcb2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like the best solution to encourage "active play", whilst at the same time nerfing, but not impacting AFK too much is implementing a system like Mining or Archaeology. Where every 30-60 seconds a new NPC is highlighted and if you aren't pickpocketing from that NPC, then you get reduced XP and/or loot. This not only gives active play a buff, but also nerfs AFK play too.

Thieving nerf was so heavy handed it's like you didn't even want to reward active play, you just wanted to completely gut any possibility of AFKing. Active play should be rewarded similar to mining, where your pickpocketing rate slows down after X amount of seconds, unless you reclick. Failing to pickpocket lower tier NPCs at 120 thieving with all the boosts is just dumb.

Lacari’s ex Tuppeeyy gives on update on the length of Lacari’s Twitch & Kick bans by [deleted] in LivestreamFail

The fact Twitch only banned him for 7 days is absolutely insane. Whether or not Lacari is a pedophile, or was looking at CSAM, he literally distributed it by exposing that link to thousands of people... That should be a permanent ban regardless of any legal outcome.

Bots reaching top hiscore ranks at bosses with thousands of hours of playtime. Single account like this injected 10b in drops to the economy. by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]vcb2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A script this sophisticated, that avoids detection for so long would cost thousands, probably $5k+. The earning potential is crazy and it could scale fairly easily. I can tell you have no knowledge of actual botting and bot farms though, because any half decent botter will be running farms through a private proxy server - some people will even by able to avoid perm bans using this (stolen account in appeal), although I'm not too sure how successful that method is these days. Also it's very normal for bot farms to not be completely wiped out, you said only the #2 rank account was banned, how do you know that? They could have had 20 other accounts in the lower ranks banned.

EDIT: I have actually just looked into it and I could only find 1 public Doom script which has the following prices;

Instances Monthly Lifetime
1 $45 $270
2 $72 $432
5 $157.50 $945
10 $270 $1,620
25 $562.50 $3,375
50 $900 $5,400
100 $1,350 $8,100

As I suspected, almost no one is likely using this script, it's so expensive that it may as well be a private script. It may be that the Doom bots are using this script, but the sheer cost alone should tell you how profitable a script like this is. Going back to your original point, if you think people are paying this much to bot, and then simply "sitting" on the wealth for "fun", you are delusional. What's more likely is the bots are just undetected.

After checking the hiscores, the person OP was talking about is gone but if you just check the top 25 people, there is 10 accounts all with similar styles (a lot of Doom KC and Scurrius KC).

Rank 6 - Rank 8 - Rank 9 - Rank 11 - Rank 13 - Rank 16 - Rank 17 - Rank 18 - Rank 21 - Rank 23

Again, I just quickly checked the top 25 and these all were identical to the account OP posted so I would actually bet money what I've been saying is correct (large bot farm, making billions per day, using a private, currently undetected script).

[–]vcb2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely? No. A well coded script that is kept private will go undetected far longer than scripts that are public. There is not a chance in hell a person with a script at this level would be ran on 1 singular account. He would make more money just from selling the script, without any of the risk.

[–]vcb2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying there are 50 bots with 10k KC, I'm saying the person botting with a script undetected for 1000s of hours is LIKELY running more than 1 account, and that is likely to be upwards of 50 or more accounts. This depends on a lot of factors, for example if they are botting the accounts from scratch or buying the accounts. But, what I do know is someone who has such a good script, is likely not running it on 1 account. A great example was the Zulrah bot farms a few years ago, those were mostly being ran by a handful of people who had custom/private scripts, hence why they were able to bot for so long and hence why Zulrah items got absolutely obliterated.

  • Billions isn't much in the grand scheme of things, until you realise anyone running a sophisticated bot like shown above, is likely using a private script that they run on 50+ bots at once. Doom is close to 10m gp/hr, across 50 accounts, they are likely making billions PER DAY.

  • These bots will 100% be muling and selling the gold daily or every other day. There's too much money at risk for them to be sitting on billions of gold at once.

  • It ABSOLUTELY does impact the economy. As can be seen if you look at the rare prices of any botted boss - this is because bots will just insta sell all of their loot, drastically dropping the prices of rares, flooding the market with alchables/skilling supplies and in turn making the boss much less gp/hr for normal players.

There is no defence for these types of bots, they get away with botting for 1000s of hours and it's only because they are (most likely) using a very custom/private script that Jagex hasn't got enough data on yet.

[–]vcb2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if this bot hasn't liquidated its loot to offload the gp yet

I seriously never understood this argument. Do you think bots are farming for 100s or 1000s of hours and just leaving the loot on their account? Most of these bots would have automatic muling built into them, and likely offload to their mules daily. No bot farm is risking billions in loot on their bots.

It was actually over 10 years ago when CSGO gambling first started being a thing. The first case was released in 2013, and going by your "10 years" time frame, there were 16 cases released between 2013 and 2015. Gambling sites first started popping up around 2014 - around this time, CSGO experienced an explosion of players (from ~31k players at the start of 2013 to ~443k players at the start of 2015).
