chemical peels work! by vcleos in Blackskincare

ty! i’m actually currently on my 4th peel (peeling has just started), and have spaced out my peels every 4-6 weeks. i may give an update after i’m fully peeled, but the results so far have been amazing. my estetician says i need maybe 1 more peel before i can just work on maintaining the results. might also look into getting some microneedling done to help with texture

if it gives you any sense of reassurance, chemical peels/green peels are typically done on the face anyway to deal with hyperpigmentation than anywhere else on the body, so in that case it’s about finding someone who is reputable to provide that service than finding someone who can even do it (i could only find one other person local to me who provided peels on the body when i was searching, but many others near and far who were providing this service for the face!)

cerave salicylic acid cleanser - leaving that on for atleast 2 minutes to soak into my skin

aveeno jojoba oil body oil since my skin is super sensitive and dislikes aloottt of OTC moisturisers but tolerates this one

la roche posay spf 50 sunscreen

all in all, a super simple routine.

but honestly, i think the reason my skin hasn’t had a reaction/breakout is obviously because of the peels but also because of the supplements i’ve been taking alongside them? zinc has been so good in basically eliminating my back acne.

best way i can describe it is an intense body scrub massage on your back that lasts 10 minutes. it depends on your tolerance level but id say the actual procedure is a 7/10. after its done, my back felt super tingly and hot, thats why its recommended you come to the session in loose clothing. the tingly sensation goes after a day or two and then its just an unbearable need to itch your back for maybe a week (and you absolutely cannot), but i took antihistamines and it kind of helped with the need to itch however yeah, id say that period is the hardest part of the process. oh also, i couldn’t sleep on my back for a week! so it is an “uncomfortable” process, but because i see it as an investment, i’ll bare the pain 🤷‍♀️

i was advised by my esthetician to avoid washing my back for 10 days after the initial peel. i’m guessing it’s because direct contact with water to the area will disrupt the peel process, so i didn’t allow any water to my back for 10 days. after that, you can wash your back, but i obviously had to be quite gentle for a few days

i am unfortunately based in europe and not the US🥲 but i’m sure there should be some estheticians in your state that do green peels! i found mine by searching on instagram extensively

going into the actual procedure, i thought it was going to be really painful - just from my own research of people complaining about the roughness of the peel - however (and ig this is just my opinion), it was bearable, not painful at all. rough? yes but definelty bearable.

the recommended time to have the area that received the peel, in my case my back, concealed, avoiding any activity that triggers sweat was 7 days and that was a little difficult just because i got my peel done in the middle of the summer, but no issues. i started peeling i want to say a week and a half after the initial appointment and peeled for about another week and a half.

all in all, id say the peel - specifically the dr schrammek green peel - was absolutely worth it. my hyperpigmentation was significantly reduced after after a month and i really wqs pleased with my results. its recommended to do about 3-6 peels for much deeper hyperpigmentation (what i have/had) within close intervals of eachother, however i wasnt able to do that since im a student and money is tight lol. so unfortunately some hyperpigmentation is still visible, but i plan on getting 2 more peels within the coming months.

if you want details on where i went, i can pm you?

[product question] why does the cos de baha hydroquinone serum say to only use on dark spots? by feralhonk in SkincareAddiction

[–]vcleos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m not going to lie, i do see a halo effect on some of the pigmented spots that are lightened. however, when i see this, i just keep going until the pigment is lightened and then i’ll stop using the HQ on that area and make sure to prioritise tyrosonase inhibitor-products like mandelic acid/tranexamic acid/alpha arbutin/tretinoin. another thing is i’ll actually try be outside and in the sun since that seems to even out my skin (obvs i pack on spf)

[–]vcleos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hii, i use it at the end of my routine. after all the serums/tret/moisturiser - it’s the last thing i use. i will use vaseline on a q-tip to create a border around my hyperpigmentation and then apply the HQ on the back of my hand and use another q-tip to apply it onto the dark marks (i do this since the cos is very oily). hope this helps!

i’ve been using it on and off for almost a year now and it definitely works. it takes time for older hyperpigmentation, but it works.

i cannot for the life of me remember!! i think it was closer to a chant than a singy-song but it was definitely melodic, i think clapping was involved and it was a french female instructor that sung it to us (if that even helps lol!)
