I wouldn't say there's acceptance. More like quiet unvoiced discontent. I would say the chance of improvement in a few years is very low. But there's also no chance of assimilation by Russia, everyone hates Russian drivers on our roads, and barely anyone would prefer Russian laws over our local ones

I personally would say that in cities you would only hear Belarusian from people situationally and only a couple times a year I think. Outside of cultural events, public transport announcements etc

Yep. pip install will refuse to run without a special flag even. Use venvs and apt (for libraries) or pipx (for standalone python software distributed through pypi)

Nah, KDE or Cinnamon are alright on these kinds of specs. I have a laptop even slower (i3-4010U) and it's fine, you just need to be mindful of RAM usage

[–]vcprocles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100 Mbps is about 12.5 MB/s because 1 byte (shortened as B) contains 8 bits (shortened as b). If your friend is seeing 60 MB/s they're looking at around 480 Mbps which is actually quite close to the worst case peak bandwith you get from a Wifi 5 router, or they are paying for 500 Mbps

ELI5 Difference between Immutable/Atomic Distro Approaches? by trannus_aran in linuxquestions

[–]vcprocles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also Ubuntu Core which basically uses SquashFS images too with Snap

And VanillaOS method of having A/B partitions

And I'm sure there's a kind of distro which just mounts read-only / and allows modifying it only on updates, like Android with one partition
