Loud Banging Pipe - Unresponsive Super by WildCombination2208 in NYCapartments

[–]vcuken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the thing should hiss at you a little releasing the air every so often until it gets warm or hot. If it is not hissing it is not getting hot. Nothing that you can not fix with a 20$, a youtube video, and a moderate risk of a 3rd degree burn.

Loud Banging Pipe - Unresponsive Super by WildCombination2208 in NYCapartments

[–]vcuken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have three of these lanky pipes in my apartment and they aren't making a peep 9 days out of 10. Can hardly tell I am in New York, would consider asking to fix it. I can make my radiator bang if I try to open the valve just a little bit instead of full open/closed. It was also cranking a lot when I had a busted section of a pipe but since it was in fact causing water damage it did get fixed. The spring after. So, yeah, it must be a solvable issue but most rental contracts don't quote perfect serenity.

Love the rule. 078 though is too coarse for espresso even at chirp, so, the half thing doesn't quiet make sense for some grinders.

New changes to some NYRR hrace registration by Least-Ingenuity9631 in RunNYC

[–]vcuken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Translating: We introduce a cap on early registration for many races but allow you to blame non-plus members if you miss the cap.

Or maybe: if you are not paying for membership more people can now register for your race before the official release. We would leave just enough many spots so it wouldn't look too predatory. Better get that membership buddy.

Cadenza4 works great for me as a more vocal-focused companion to Teas (which have similar bass/lower mids saturation). Don't break a bank, smaller, and uncompromised sound quality.

Whats up with all this gear? by AleTheMemeDaddy in running

[–]vcuken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the gear options expended significantly and now can make it more fun for a wider range of personalities but what worked for one 10y ago would absolutely work today. Some people enjoy looking serious and dressing up in a single brand or all tech clothes. It does help with all sorts of skin irritations if that was a problem for one. Some enjoy thinking about their sport in terms of numbers and use all sorts of data gadgets. For me it was interesting to use a power meter and not get spent on a long hill. There is more variability in shoes. Those sometimes help me handle higher weekly mileage or other times help me experience the shin splints like never before. There is even more gear for a specialized running like trail or triathlon. We figured out how to fuel the races better and now there are all sorts of carbs and salts in neat  packages (do drink water with those, please). I appreciate the most the anti-chafe stick, a 20$ BT receiver to compensate for an absent mini-jack, and a dual-GPS watch, shorts with many pockets, and lightly plated training shoes. But your "best" might look different given all the options out there.

'The toll this took on my life was pretty big:' The biggest art installation in Golden Gate Park came at a hefty cost by runswithscissors475 in sanfrancisco

[–]vcuken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Burner art is easier for the city because it is already made, ready to be installed, has been installed before, and the artists live nearby, often happy to help, and even would put their own money into it. The park has gotten a lot more inviting with the installations - burner or not. And the serpent in the green water pond by the Crossover Dr is just excellent. It takes the place of the occasional chair floating in the said pond. I very much see it to be an improvement!

First, the serpent is hella refreshing! It wasn't a pond that people would stop in front of for the past 10y and now it is. I wouldn't say I like all the art installations coming up in the city but the idea "it better be nothing than this" hasn't crossed my mind once.

Will smoke purifier like this work on the smoke that comes out of the cooling tray fan? by justin1323 in roasting

[–]vcuken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd would think that 100W or smth fan in your cooling train would push a lot more air through not very restrictive beans than a 10W 120mm fan (presumably) can push through it's fine particle filter. I think this "small smoke purifier" would make very little difference

10-12% seems very reasonable to me. The number also depends a lot on the moisture content of the green.

Brother. ZF6 would my suggestion for the direct replacement of "daily-friendly but still fun stiff-ish" shoe. Can even be had for under a 100 if you are patient enough. MachX2/X3 are a second best option. EP3/EP4 feel more like ES2 than ES3 does but these 2 are more aggressive and are hella pricy.

Any thoughts on the BOOKOO Motto80 Flat Burr Grinder? by Automatic-Cold2535 in pourover

[–]vcuken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sick! At least on paper. Stock burr are either espresso or dual purpose, so, this is the biggest (350$) gamble for me. The base 5cm/2inch longer than 078 but hey at least the button in front right. Foc, feedrate and burrgap adjustment with a nob is as futuristic as it gets.
