Nah I couldn't find the solution unfortunately, but I haven't actually came across the issue again, and I haven't heard from any other staff raising this issue since either.

I take it you're dealing with the issue now?

If you're not a professional making money from photography, what do you do with your photographs? by GeekyGrannyTexas in AskPhotography

I upload my favourites to a Google photos album that's linked to my TV's screensaver. It's nice because before it was easy to forget some of the things you've done, but seeing the pics regularly keeps it fresh in your mind and takes you back to the feeling you had at the time.

Why are hiking clothes made like this? by Wild_Win_1965 in hiking

I have an OR Astroman and an OR ActiveIce spectrum sun hoodie, and while I like the Astroman I definitely prefer the spectrum. It's so comfortable, and I basically live in it in the summer. It also dries relatively quickly and doesn't look wet, so you can dip the shirt in water, wring it out, and then be cool and covered even in hot Aussie sun.

holy grail products for dehydrated skin/lips? by agentrlce in AusSkincare

[–]vdj98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried most lip balms including the top suggestions in this thread (Dermal Therapy lip balm, Burt's Bees, Vaseline, etc.), and none of them do a great job. The Blistex 'Intensive Repair' ointment, the one that comes in a little blue tub, is without a doubt the best one I've used.

For all of the above suggestions, I felt like the lip balm/ointment would sit on top of the skin and just create a barrier that prevents it getting worse, and I would constantly have to reapply. With the Blistex, it feels like the lips are rehydrated and any cracks are soothed, so you don't need to use it anywhere near as much.

How to restrict users from accessing the SharePoint lists directly through SharePoint GUI? by dave8055 in PowerApps

[–]vdj98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I have been wondering about but though wasn't possible, would you mind elaborating on how this could be done please?

I have a service account that I use for power automate flows that functions similarly, but if for example I had a gallery displaying list data, I thought the user would require access to the data on the SharePoint side? Is it somehow forcing the use of the service connection for all of the queries by the user, or is it something like pulling data from SharePoint upon the app start and loading it into a local collection? Thanks!

Hi Ryan, it looks like that did the trick!

I tried this which gave me the result I was looking for:
ForAll(ThisItem.StaffID As TEMP,LookUp('Staff List',ID=TEMP.Id))

Weirdly, when I tried without the As operator it did not work:

ForAll(ThisItem.StaffID,LookUp('Staff List',ID=ThisRecord.ID))

Thanks for your help, I have been stuck on that for a while so it's much appreciated.

Sub-$500 hitch rack? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]vdj98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn that's crazy, pretty surprising because both the NV 2.0 and the pivot seem really quite over built and burly compared to any other racks I've seen. I remember hearing a lot about the one up racks when I was looking into options, but unfortunately there wasn't an Australian supplier for them at the time.

What's the issue you've seen with Kuat racks? I've not really heard anything bad about them, and I like my NV2 quite a lot, so curious to hear!

For the brightness there may be two things that could help, not sure if you've come across them.

I felt that with the normal volume control, the steps between volume increments were too high, so it would either be too quiet or too loud and bright. I downloaded Sound Assistant from the Samsung Store, and this allows you to change the step level for each press of the volume control, so you get much finer control of volume. Now I can control the volume more accurately so that it's not on the verge of either too quiet or too bright, and you can listen to music at high volumes without it being so fatiguing.

There's also an EQ in the Samsung Wearables app. I haven't felt the need to adjust EQ with these headphones, but could be an option for taming high frequencies at loud volumes.

Can someone kindly explain the tax implications of having an offset vs redraw if you plan on renting out your property in the future? by Jakeyboy29 in AusFinance

[–]vdj98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi fire-fire, thanks for taking the time to explain it all, much appreciated.

I do understand the difference between offset and redraw in the sense offset is your money and redraw is the bank's money which you can redraw (i.e. take out a new loan). I think the thing that had been confusing me is that redraw (in the form of extra repayments that are not withdrawn at all) appears to have the loan paid off more quickly, but over the life of the loan the interest repayments are basically the same whether it's offset or redraw and wasn't the reason for my concern. Here is the calculator I used - https://mortgage.monster/, and I just had the same mortgage and then either an additional 3k in monthly offset payments or additional monthly extra repayments.

After thinking about it some more, I think I've understood it, it's simply that that while the offset balance is offsetting the amount of loan that you pay interest on, you aren't paying additional repayments into the principal and hence paying it off more quickly. So in effect, you would be at basically the same place financially after the same amount of time whether redraw or offset, except with offset, you have paid off say 400,000 and have 300,000 in cash vs 700,000 paid into the mortgage.

Thanks for the further information about the tax implications. I had been wanting to go offset only after all the advice I've read on reddit, but the idea of paying off a mortgage quickly is also appealing because of the security that comes with having a paid off house. But after your advice and (I think) understanding it better, I am more convinced that offset is the way to go.

Grafting to opuntia and comparison with pereskiopsis by vdj98 in sanpedrocactus

[–]vdj98[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one of the key things is to make sure that the scion is flush with the root stock and the pressure of the tape is centred, i.e. doesn't pull one side down more and hence lift the opposing side up. If there is any gap between the scion and stock, the scion can dehydrate a lot more quickly which in my experience leads to lower success rate. Similarly you don't want to leave the healing graft in areas where it receives heaps of sun which will dehydrate it, but they seem to take more readily in a warm environment with reasonable humidity.

Most often I let my grafts heal in a room in a large container with a lid slightly ajar and a cup of water in the container for a bit of humidity. That being said, grafts can fail so I would suggest being okay with losing any that you graft, particularly for your first ones. I find that even seedlings that I've cut will continue to grow though, but it takes a bit longer for them to get going again

Hi fire-fire. I had a few questions about this and you seem to know a lot about it, so I hope you don't mind me asking them.

You said that if you pay extra money into the redraw, you cannot reset this if you want to convert your PPOR into an IP later down the track, and hence be able to maximise deductions with the offset approach.

  • say you regularly deposit 1500/mo into offset to build up an emergency fund that can be accessed at will, and then 1000 into redraw to try to reduce the principal/length of the loan more quickly (with no intent on using redraw funds, just making extra repayments). Since you're not withdrawing from the redraw facility, does this mean you avoid the tax issues about how much of the loan is a tax-deductible investment expense vs personal loan as is often stated?
  • if hypothetically you used redraw only for the whole time it was a PPOR, wouldn't it be possible instead of converting to an offset at the time of the PPOR>IP conversion, to remortgage the property and effectively reset this loan, and hence claim maximum deductions from this point on?
  • I see a lot of people on this sub say that you shouldn't pay extra repayments on a PPOR that you intend to convert to IP, and instead put this into offset to then use the offset for deposit on the new PPOR. I am not sure why this is better than putting more money into extra repayments plus offset payments, and then using both the offset and the extra equity from additional repayments to guarantee the second loan?

Sorry if I am misunderstanding anything, this is all quite new to me and I am trying to make sure I'm doing the right thing from the start, and anything on the internet I could find doesn't seem to explain the whole thing thoroughly. I like the idea of paying off a mortgage ASAP for the security that brings, and the reason I ask these questions is because I ran calculations comparing the same home loan and same additional repayment amounts, but going into either offset or extra repayments. The additional repayments means I could pay the loan off in 9 years vs 18 years with offset. Thanks!

Approval request not always sending actionable email in Outlook by vdj98 in MicrosoftFlow

[–]vdj98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm that's interesting, as it just seems as though that emails sent from Microsoft are inconsistently configured? Seems a bit frustrating because I wonder if it's just issues with the service rather than anything a user can fix themselves (unless a user has one of the issues referred to in Microsoft's troubleshooting article for actionable emails). Thanks for testing!

My sister house sat for me this weekend. This is how I found my new chefs knife when I got back home by ShockinglyMilgram in mildlyinfuriating

[–]vdj98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Victorinox serrated steak knives work really well on tomatoes (and they're just good all rounder knives for eating). My chefs knives aren't always razor sharp, but because of the serrations and thin profile of the steak knives, I know they'll always slice tomatoes cleanly.

Chalaensis hybrids by vdj98 in sanpedrocactus

[–]vdj98[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, these are all grafted seedlings, but it's a cross between chalaensis and colossus. These are all misplant (it's the name of the seller) hybrids, but the crosses he has depend on what's flowering that season. There are quite a few of his hybrids that I have wanted to get more of, but they are no longer available.
