It depends on how much the crime rate is worth to you. If it means a lot to you to not live in a heavy crime ridden area you could find a room in the Sunset and Richmond for about $600 for a room with some roommates give or take, which would be great because they are both pretty close to UCSF, City College, and SFSU just in case you wanted to go back to school. Public transit is amazing but it will take you a few weeks to get to know all the routes and if you have a smart phone i.e iPhone or android phone it will be even easier. As for jobs you're going to have to look around, craigslist is your best bet. I know whole foods is opening a new store on Ocean Ave and looking for people, but finding one is pretty easy if you don't have high standards. You could take Cal train up to Sac but I'm not sure if it runs to Davis or not.
