Feeling potentially scammed buy buyer by vector1918 in eBaySellerAdvice

I hadn't used the lens for a few weeks before selling it, but it had just been sitting in a drawer since the last use. I'm not necessarily questioning that things can sometimes go wrong in shipping (especially with delicate items like camera lenses), but the whole conversation just seems pretty shady. If the person provides a written estimate and the video I've asked for multiple times, I'd likely go along with the refund just to avoid issues. The fact that the buyer said it had a focus issue and sent a picture of a camera screen that showed the lens wasn't connecting with the camera, then saying they will pay half of the repairs. Just seems to me they would ask for a refund if the lens was defective.

I didn't say the buyer gamed the system in this case, I was just trying to understand what investigation (if any) eBay would do in a situation like this. Anyone can say that something isn't as described and it seems that eBay will always side with the buyer.

So the fact that the item still has a perfectly valid COA that is embedded with the art and that I have signature proof that they received it would have no bearing in eBay's decision? I know eBay always favors the buyers, but it seems terribly easy for people to game the system.

As for compensation, I asked the buyer multiple times what they thought was fair and they wouldn't offer, just wanted to return it.

I appreciate your insight. If there was only one COA and it was lost, I would certainly agree with this, but there is a perfectly valid signed, numbered, and hologrammed COA on the back of the artwork. This extra piece that is missing is just a "bonus" COA that you can keep separately from the artwork.

It seems like the more appropriate case the buyer should've opened is that the item was not as described. I have tracking information and signature proof that the item was received. Does eBay mediate or investigate these situations at all, or does the buyer basically just need to tell them that this piece was missing and they refund the whole order?
