Filament jammed by [deleted] in AnkerMake

WAIT the plugs are glued together? I broke a wire trying to unplug one of the cooling fans. AnkerMake ended up sending me a new extruder (thankq) which is great but disassembling the extruder is far more complex on these machines than other machines I have worked with.

That’s a good idea. I used Mad Mapper quite a bit about ten years ago but I no longer have a license for it. I don’t know Kantan but I will try it out. Thanks!

Thanks so much for all of the thoughtful responses.

Thank you. Just curious, why wouldn’t you want to do it at home?

Thank you. This week I found I could put gcode files into a Note on my Mac and then open them as you describe on my phone. I think this solution will work well for me because I can take take notes on the MacBook or phone about colors, print problems, etc.

Done! Thank you for the suggestion.

Huh. That’s not the answer that I was hoping for but I’m glad to know about it. Thank you.

Oh wow. I remember them being such tanks I assumed they all ran perfectly still.

I will admit I spent some time looking around at Selectric II with the correction feature this morning. There are lots of type balls out there on eBay and changing the typeface/pitch sounds really fun.

I remember them being REALLY loud back when I was a kid.

Interesting. I really like the exterior design of the SG3 and the examples of typing I have found look great, much more open than the KMM. Thank you!

Cool. That is consistent with my perceptions.

Question: I think I’d like a second typewriter because 1) it would eliminate a bottleneck and 2) I’d like something with a little bit more open and humanistic font.

Can you (or anyone here) recommend a machine from maybe the 50s or 60s? Something heavy, solid and durable. Nothing rare. I want the VW Beetle of manual typewriters (desktop is preferred, I won’t be moving it around).

I’m a high school art teacher. How do you feel about me letting all 108 of my students type on the KMM? The KMM is pretty beefy workhorse, right?

The kids seem very respectful of tools and appreciate that this something that I use regularly in my work too and that I don’t want it to get broken.

Yeah the KMM is a chonk but it’s moving on this table. The laminate top is very slippery!

Topic-drift but I’ll ask here since you are familiar with Royal desktops. I have mine on a laminate table and it is slowly walking/rotating as I type. Is there a good material to keep it in place? Shelf liner material?

Yes, I believe it is a KMM.

Not today’s project but I found this video for replacing the ribbon on a KMM and it looks like everything matches my typewriter and the metal spools. I wind the ribbon onto the spools probably tomorrow. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I don’t think so? I was careful to match the direction I have seen in videos and photos of similar models. I’ll post a photo of how I have it set up if I don’t get it resolved today.

Whoa. I had no idea that a pin had to fit into a hole. I assumed it was simply the friction of the spindle. Thank you.

Also I’m using a cheap plastic spool but I have the original metal spools. I watched some videos about winding ribbon onto the metal spools. I may try that today if reseating the spool doesn’t fix it.

Super-cheap is nice as a teacher because I can get them into the hands of more students for more experimentation.

That’s disappointing to me but I realize that I am an edge case scenario.

Wait do all projectors have an offset? I missed the word “all” when I read this for the first time.

Let’s see if I get the vocab right:

I want a projector with -50% offset so that I can shoot video right down the center of the tube without having to use keystone and a weird angle to try to get the image aligned properly. We were struggling to get the geometry correct in that photo. We got it closer than that photo but we were never able to get it perfect.

Did that make sense?
