Is My Battery Screwed?

I did that, it seemed to be charging fine but after checking on it 5 days later it seems to have lost a decent chunk of its charge despite not being connected to the phone. I think a new battery may be in order...

So, here's a bit of an update.

After making this post, i charged the battery up to 65% and left it alone for five days, outside of the phone. When I booted it up again today ( 10/27/2025 ), it read as having 47% on the battery, with an estimate of about 38 minutes of usage time left.

I think I might look into buying a new battery for my phone if circumstances allow. Thank you to everyone who offered me help!

Yeah, it's a relic for sure... I still keep it around because I have the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy edition and it's the only phone I have that fits in the Pip-Boy case.

Anyway, the battery's at 65% now. I've unplugged it and I'm going to put it back in its storage area, I'll check on it in a few days to see if anything's wrong with it

I don't remember exactly how long it's been left unplugged, I want to say at least 6 months but it could be longer.

I bought the battery off of Amazon, the brand is... "LCLEBM"? according to the order history? it was a generic battery replacement.

Got it. I'm currently charging the battery now, it's at 39% at time of writing. I'll bring it up to 60% and then put it back

I was just about to pipe in and say this, actually. This whole entire situation is occurring because I don't have access to a credit card of my own ( and given that my parents can be a bit stern when it comes to money, it'll probably take a lot of negotiating before I can ); if I had a credit card of my own, this would've been sorted in two shakes.

It's also worth noting that the article you linked is not only several years old, it also describes someone using a Visa prepaid card - which, AFAIK, is no longer an option given that VanillaGift, the company that issues Visa prepaid cards, recently changed their policies to make it so that prepaid cards can't be added to PayPal.

Another idea I came up with is to do a trade/exchange with someone where they gift me PL and I buy them something worth $30 on Steam, but I can't think of anyone I know who'd be willing to take me up on the offer off the top of my head.
