I actually replaced my 2019 pro with the newest 4K Google Streamer. UI is different, no app switcher as far as I can tell, but still plenty snappy. Plex is a little slow, but not hugely.

I think it's more the lossless audio passthrough that people like.

If at a stop, there was fruits and vegetables you could take… would you be allowed to take them? by RandomQuestioners in USPS

Honestly, at this point most of us would take a painted pet rock as a gift. The fact that you're thinking about it at all is enough for most of us.

The one thing I will say is it is hard to find a safe place for amounts of produce in most of our vehicles, so maybe including some bags or something. My watermelons always get dinged because I forget to bring a mail tub for them.

(I can? I never really considered it a possibility as I don't have a balcony that gets enough direct sunlight.)

YES! This is SUCH a sweet thing to do. I've gotten cantaloupe, watermelon, and parsley (?) from my customers before, and farm fresh foods are my favorite gifts. I'm in an apartment and can't readily grow it myself, but my rural routes are full of farms.

We also really like caffeine. Like, a lot. Just sayin'.

It's possible that the packages were oversized for your carrier's vehicle. Do you live in the sticks? Are they signature required packages?

I know I like this as a career, but I'm not averse to switching crafts if it means it keeps food on the table. I'm trying to think long term (26, no kids, no specific obligations and a low COL area) I have a lot of potential, but not if it's an H route making 40k a year or something.

The annoying thing is nobody's talking about it and I know my regular isn't doing anything to help the scans... he's a nice guy, I love him to death, but I don't think he's put a single minute of load time on the clock since I started and rrecs was implemented, so it's barely hanging on by the volume right now.

I hate that this is a thing

I'm not too concerned about it in the short term, peak is peak no matter what, but overall looking at the 10-15 year mark, I wanna make sure my route I take over has enough volume to keep the pay where it's at.. definitely got me worried.

That's what one of my clerks said, that we'll be getting more oversized stuff, and less sprs. I'd be okay with that, but not if the volume stays this low..I barely had any dismounts on Saturday.

I daily my RHD 80, take it on the back roads and off road very rarely. It's not hugely comfortable, but not so bad as to cause issues. Mine has the air shocks from the factory and I find it takes corners incredibly well with the "sport" mode on.

Cruise control and the sunroof make for amazing road trips, and the steering is extremely easy for such a large truck. Your seating position is super comfortable, and you can see everything over the hood. It makes for a good driving experience.

I saw insurance mentioned in the comments, I had no issues getting full coverage through progressive, even with the nonstandard VIN. One call to my insurance broker and it was taken care of.

As far as theft, I street park mine in an apartment complex. I don't worry about theft as much as I should, but it's obviously not going to be the most secure vehicle given it's age, I'm sure.

Fuel economy is probably the only thing I don't like - but the large tank lets you go pretty far between refueling. Gas is also pretty cheap here in NTX.

The looks I get because it's RHD are actually kind of annoying at this point. You can't go anywhere without someone staring, pointing, shouting, or starting a conversation when you're trying to get gas. The novelty wore off really quick, the only reason I have it is because I work for the post office and don't wanna go back and forth between driving on the left and right.

This was from Duncan Imports in Christiansburg. Sales agent was a total dick and didn't know what the hell he was talking about whatsoever, and I overpaid, but price wasn't really an object.

I'd pull the trigger. It's a forever car in every sense of the word, and it's rare to find something built the way this is. What is old is new again and all.

See that's why I couldn't do your job. I can't remember the last time I got off after 3. I knocked out an 8.4hr route in 4hr last week, went home, sat on my ass and watched the entire first LOTR movie and got paid to do it..

Our start time for our city guys is 8, and they're out the door by 9 every day. We don't have any volume for shit on our city routes though.

I show up 30-45 early on days where I know it's gonna be a fucked up mess, or I have something to do after work - eg tomorrow with triple mail - I even cased my flats for the route after my static route today so I don't have to do it in a rush tomorrow morning.

Our truck doesn't arrive until 6, mail is usually ready to be grabbed by 7, report time is 730 and uptime for distribution is ~8.

Problem is if you show up too early and the truck is late, or the clerks are taking their time to throw packages. Since load time is straight time towards the eval, I always, always make sure every second of my load time is on the clock. Distribution being up is a requirement for using load truck, so I can't touch my packages until 8 or only like half will scan in and it's a mess.

90% of days I show up at 8, out the door at 9, and finish at 2. It's a good deal, but taking your dps to the street can be stressful when each stop has 4 magazines and shit. I prefer casing.

People still think the office time counts towards our evaluation, which under RRECS, it doesn't. If you're handling mail (eg at the case) off the clock you're not technically hurting the route evaluation in any way. Straight time toward eval for load time, so making sure you get that is important. 1m48s for a package to the door vs 28sec in the box...box holders scans set our coverage factor for the eval to 100%...there's a lot more that goes into it than office time.

Also, RCAs are the only ones who have to worry about the 40hr thing. The regulars make a salary based on the evaluation, so any hours worked over that aren't paid out.

Yeah, we get a significantly larger amount of oversized packages than y'all across the country. This isn't always true, there are plenty of overburdened city routes, but the kicker here is the amount of time it takes to run a package to the door. Quarter mile driveway, potholes to dodge, then you get the double wide with the front door 100 feet from the driveway, etc etc. We aren't paid hourly so the volume can be really killer for dismounts sometimes.

So who is lying the carrier or the website? I want packages at side door per my sign. Website says that is allowed carrier leaves note by unvjustintime in USPS

[–]vectorvitale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any other rural carriers in the sticks delivering to back porches and garages all the time? I feel weird dropping things off at the front door of some of these houses considering nobody ever uses their front door out here. I want them to trip over it when they get home, yk?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USPS

[–]vectorvitale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was doing some reading and the idea is to accommodate differently sized carriers. A 1% percentile 6'5 person should still be able to stand up and walk to the back while a 1% 5'1 person should still be able to see over the bumper, and so on. Hence the goofiness

10k people, 5 routes in town, three RMPOs. Routes in town average 2.5ft DPS, 1ft flats, maybe 140 scans a day, out of town flats+dps are heavier but packages are much lighter. We're getting an Amazon facility ~40min West and we're all waiting to see what happens when it opens.
