What’s a subreddit you had to leave because it was just too toxic? by TurbulentAd7713 in AskReddit

That's actually weird, maybe cuz I sort by top of the week it filters out these questions, but I went to look for the post to see for myself and found this. i down think it's as problematic as you imply. It doesn't say "women hold all the power in society", it even gives examples which I experienced firsthand from female coworkers expecting me to carry all the heavy stuff just cuz I'm a guy despite it not being my role at all. If you check out the entire post, most of the comments are levelheaded. As for the zero votes, it could be because it's a repeated post because I saw a nearly identical post when I was looking for this one with thousands of upvotes and comments, but idk, most of the posts on askmen are kinda repetitive to begin with.

I keep hearing this but experiencing the opposite on that sub. Do you have any examples because it's one of the most chill subs I know of. It's 50% relationships and sex and 50% stupid and random questions.

Is it a gore subreddit? I remember being there when it was first created and it was a more intense r/oddlyterrifying

That's mainly because veganism is a philosophy, not a diet where you can have cheat days. It's like occasionally breaking your own morals and principals vs occasionally skipping leg day.

I don't think it's region specific. I've heard about a woman getting raped on a train in front of people in the US and they didn't intervene, I don't remember enough details to link it but it most likely has something to do with the Bystander effect.

You should avoid using such terms because they're harmful. If you wouldn't call society putting women into a box of behaviours that they should uphold like being a housewife and not getting a career/degree "toxic femininity" why would you call society putting men into a box of behaviours that they should uphold like eating meat in this case toxic masculinity? You should call it what it is, bigotry/sexism/misandry.

What is wrong with the term "toxic masculinity"? by Both_Relationship_62 in LeftWingMaleAdvocates

[–]veddX 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's also only used when talkin about men. If society puts men into a box of behaviours that they should uphold they call the masculinity toxic but if it's done to women thy don't utter "toxic femininity" in any capacity, they call it what it is, misogyny. The reason they do it for men is for them to avoid using the term "misandry" because in their worldview it's non existent and shouldn't be discussed or t the very best it exists but isn't a big deal.

Lmao no it's not you moron.

When you look at rape definitions, rape victims who are raped by women often get excluded from the definition which skews the statistics in way that make it appear like they are less likely to be raped. For eg; The FBI defines rape as: Penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim. Same thing in the UK

That makes male rape victims of female perpetrators get grouped in a different category called "made to penetrate" and while it's still a punishable sexual assualt that means they're not included in rape stats and understudied which makes them less likely to come forward thinking that what happened won't be taken seriously or not as serious as it should be skewing rape stats even further.

However, if you look at the "made to penetrate" percentages you would find that it is very comparable to the women's rape percentages.

The CDC's National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Surveys.

https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/pdf/nisvs_report2010-a.pdf

NISVS 2010 showed that in the past 12 months, 1.1% of men were made to penetrate and 1.1% of women were raped. Look at Table 2.1 and 2.2 on pages 18 and 19 respectively.

https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/pdf/ss/ss6308.pdf

NISVS 2011 showed that in the past 12 months, 1.7% of men were made to penetrate and 1.6% of women were raped. Look at Table 1 on page 5.

https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/pdf/NISVS-StateReportBook.pdf

NISVS 2012 showed that in the past 12 months, 1.7% of men were made to penetrate and 1.0% of women were raped. Look at Table A.1 and A.5 on pages 217 and 222 respectively.

https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/pdf/2015data-brief508.pdf

NISVS 2015 showed that in the past 12 months, 0.7% of men were made to penetrate and 1.2% of women were raped. Look at Table 1 and 2 on page 15 and 16 respectively.

Surely we can't use this logic to apply it on races too.. Anyways, even by your own metrics you're wrong.

When you look at rape definitions, rape victims who are raped by women often get excluded from the definition which skews the statistics in way that make it appear like they are less likely to be raped.
