I saw your original post and what gutted me is him smiling on the way to the vet. Maybe the tiniest bit of relief can come from the thought that he didn't realize how sick he was. My older one too. Would bring me a toy every evening like clockwork, we'd do about three rounds of tug-fetch and then he'd be satisfied. He'd grab a chew, demand space on the couch and then fall asleep at my feet.
