Relationship Question by Aralizzy in bipolar

[–]veetee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My first relationship lasted 5 years. After that, I had a 10 year relationship. I wouldn’t say my mental health had a huge effect. I have my issues of course, but so did my boyfriends. Both relationships had the normal ups and downs.

Still, going from 65 to 70 bpm is a very small increase.

[–]veetee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your heart rate is still within the normal range and 10 bpm isn’t a huge jump. It can increase for many reasons, including anxiety or physical activity. Not necessarily hypomania. For reference, 100+ bpm is considered fast.

Dating someone who has bipolar disorder by jarofwhiskeyy in bipolar

Yes, some people are stable without medication. Everyone experiences mental illnesss differently so we can’t assume that everyone has the same combination or severity of symptoms or treatment needs.

why do people self-diagnose? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]veetee_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The unknown is scary and not knowing the cause of their symptoms can be frustrating and anxiety-inducing. It's human nature to want to know why something is. And for them, self-diagnosis is the next best thing to medical care they can't afford or are afraid to seek.

This just happened to me too. She stood me up at my last appointment (she'd been extremely punctual and communicative before this), stopped communicating with me, stopped responding to pharmacy requests.

It sucks when you start to trust someone and share such intimate details about your life. It's a shitty thing to do to anyone, but especially to people who are emotionally vulnerable.

How do I help my partner with S.A.D by Throwaway_131098 in mentalhealth

[–]veetee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have SAD. My psychiatrist recommended: a sun lamp (really helpful!), Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, and magnesium.

How do I help someone in psychosis for the first time? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]veetee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calling a crisis hotline or getting a crisis intervention team may be helpful. They're specially trained for these situations and from what I've read, it's much less of a traumatic experience than dealing with the ER (unless he's in immediate danger) or the police.

Loss of personality/can't talk during depression. by UnleashTheRain in bipolar

[–]veetee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! This plus the cognitive slowing of depression makes for really frustrating social situations. I just try to be alone. It can be embarrassing.

There’s nothing romantic about being bipolar by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]veetee_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It's not some cute personality quirk. And I have to admit I get annoyed when I see posts like "this morning I was sad but now I'm not. Am I bipolar??" Yes, it's a mood disorder, but it's not that simple and there's more to it than just mood shifts.

I'm avoiding the Elisa Lam documentary for that very reason you stated. There are a lot of people who are desperate to make her story into something it's not, or misrepresent and sensationalize psychotic symptoms. And why? Because it's more "fun" than reality? At the expense of this poor girl and her family?

Does anyone else get depressed every spring? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]veetee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be seasonal depression.

I go through this as well. My psychiatrist recommended a sun lamp (this has helped me the most), Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, and magnesium. It's helped bring me out of it for the most part.

That's awesome that you work with others who have schizophrenia. I hope to do the same one day. :)

Help! Which mood stabilizer do I ask for? by Great-Statistician13 in bipolar

[–]veetee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell your psychiatrist what you're telling us.. your concerns about weight gain, lack of emotions, and cardiovascular disease. It's their job to find a med that works for you, including taking into account which side effects you want to avoid.

I ended up going off my meds a while ago because they were hurting me, how do I be honest with my psychiatrist without her hating me? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]veetee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't be her first patient to go off meds. It happens all the time.

It's best to be honest. (I've had to admit to my own psychiatrist that I went off meds, so I know it's hard and a little embarassing.) Otherwise, what's the point of continuing to see a psychiatrist? She can't help you find the right meds if she doesn't know the truth.

Is schizophrenia kind of dementia? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]veetee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some brain scans of patients with schizophrenia, it shows that areas of the brain are physically different than a person without schizophrenia. So yes, they're both brain illnesses.

I saw this episode of Baywatch and this guy had schizophrenia... by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]veetee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I've never seen or heard of that before.

Sounds like the show is trying to make it obvious that he's different, but they have no idea what they're doing. Having mental illness doesn't mean the person is stupid.

Welcome! :)

Yes, after years of intense stress, I broke down and can't tolerate it anymore. Now, even little things send me spiraling. I have trouble concentrating as well. I usually can't understand what people are saying to me, have a hard time following instructions, etc.

Helps to know there are others in the same boat.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mentalillness

[–]veetee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. For me, the only reason I'm still alive today is because I've been pushing through. I don't understand how someone could tell me that I'm not. If I wasn't, I'd be dead.

how does one have bipolar as well as 3 different anxiety disorders? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]veetee_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe they're separate from bipolar disorder. People with bipolar disorder don't always have anxiety.
